Who should be YRs new head writer?

Rumors are Pratt is exiting at end of his contract. My dream duo is Shelly Altman and Kay Alden. They both have head written YR with great success. Kay was at YR many years and was just incredible. She old school and Shelly did a brilliant job writing after JG. Traditional mixed with modern flair.

Someone experienced who knows Y&R as either Executive Story Consultant or Co-HW with someone fresh or someone with Bell experience as the main HW. Kay Alden was grooming Natalie Minardi Slater as her successor so I wouldn't mind her having a shot. Obviously if Kay was grooming her for so many years she has to have some interest in the role, so I'd like to see what she'd bring to the position.

I agree with Natalie Minardi Slater. She has been with the show forever. She has not been a head writer.

Possibly have Kay Alden as a story consultant.

I would like to see Janice Ferri Esser promoted. She is a good script writer and she has been with the show forever so she knows history. Susan Dansby hasn't been a script writer as long bur she is good. She was a one of the better script writers at ATWT. She sure did her best to make the crap that Jean P.wrote into something watchable on ATWT!

Whoever it is will have the herculean task of making the show watchable again by appealing to long term fans by making Y&R feel like Y&R while bringing in younger audience and continuing down the dumb exec mandated path of a couple driven soap.  They've already failed. It's impossible!

    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
