ALL: Hair That Makes (or Breaks) the Man

With people talking about Jason Thompson's shabby, shaggy 'do for his new role that makes him look older/dirty/etc., what other guys (or gals?) can routinely go from chic to shabby with a quick snip of the scissors, razor blades, etc.?

The first two that come to mind for me are:

Yes, Joshua Morrow changes drastically when he does that ridiculous long-haired, unshaven look. Yuck.

Much like his onscreen daddy. For me there has always been a huge difference between this

A generalization, sure, but it's interesting how long hair seems to age men while short hair seems to age women.  Years of watching OLTL and AMC in particular, I noticed how the longer hair pulled down young men's faces while the shorter cuts looked fresh/squeaky/youthful.  DF, JPL, JY come to mind...

I loved RS's bountiful auburn weave of the early '90s.  She and SL both went shorter that decade, and while they were still beautiful, I think "bigger" hair always looked better on them, like JW mentioned above.

Jane Elliott, Linda Dano, and Louise Sorel sure rocked the hell out of Sassoon cuts.  Gillian Spencer, Jennifer Bassey too...

With some ladies, a shorter 'do helps maintain a more youthful appearance, I think. In Susan Lucci's case, I think she made a good decision in the mid/late 90's to cut her hair for awhile, because it was starting to look thinner.

I wonder how Marj Dusay would've looked had she grown her hair back out in the early 00's.

    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
    • Rewatching some of 1991 I had to appreciate what a strong week March 5-12 1991 was. Cassandra dies, Nina shoots David, Sheila switces the babies, and drunk Nikki all occurring simultaneously. 1991 and 92 were pretty strong overall.
    • Still loving all the Gio fallout, but the scenes that really surprised me this episode were the ones with Nina and Maxie. I was not expecting Nina to be the one to put together all the pieces about Sasha's baby daddy. This custody hearing is about to get explosive!
    • I really hope after the secret comes out their interactions don't stop
    • BAHAHA  I needed that laugh today. Talk about one note.  I would put Derek and Ashley a notch above Dani. Dani's scenes are basically rinse, lather, and repeat for 60 episodes and counting.  It's as if she was transported from the soap opera Passions onto this soap.  MVJ should put aside her friendship/admiration for Karla and look at the fact that this character isn't wroking as written.
