Because if Bill sides with Eric/Rick there won't be a takeover (50%-50%) and Rick stays president. He can basically choose between Rick and Ridge.

Well I'm just explaining why Rick is going to Bill. I don't think it makes sense either but Bill is no fan of Ridge and who knows what Rick is offering.
