Members jo.frank88
I am waiting to comment on this until it's official... but I am so NOT happy about the direction of this show if this is true - especially leading into the 50th. SMH. So many TRUE 20s-30s legacy characters that are off-canvas just waiting to be brought back.. So, so many...
Members sungrey
Jofrank, I prefer to think positive. Maybe TPTB (or TIIC, depending on your mood) have been listening to us? Maybe those of us who no longer watch the show because we don't recognize half the characters on it might be getting our wish? Not saying you're negative, please... don't get me wrong. I want Days to remember the audience it alienated when a lot of familiar faces left. Don't give us a story involving Jack's book, give us Matt Ashford! Bring back Peter Reckell! And while we're at it, start rebuilding the 20s-30s set. Bring back Phillip, Chelsea, Stephanie, Nathan, Melanie, Shawn, Belle, etc... THAT is your next generation of Days, not the current set. And while we're at it, how about bringing an adult Andrew onto the canvas?
Members Days22
Thats a pipe dream. This writing team has no interest in writing stories for most characters who havent been one of their faves over the last 5 to 7 years.
Members sungrey
And yes, that's the catch. We need a writer like Sheri Anderson, one who believes in the older characters and who can write for the younger set. I can dream, right? Members cassadine1991
Days tried that during MarDar bringing back lots of old characters and then Corday freaked out and brought back TomSell and lots of them were axed and they basically continued their own stories. Members DRW50
Well it didn't help that most of the returns were poorly done. I still feel like Belle, Shawn-D, etc. are somewhat played out. I wish they would take a risk and do something like bring Sandy Horton back with her adult children. New Hortons, new possibilities.

Members Mathewson
Molly Burnett was annoying as hell 80% of the time but she got better towards the end. I don't think Shawn/Belle/Phillip/Chelsea would ever come back. For Shawn and Belle at least, I'm glad, especially Shawn. Jason Cook was so unlikable as Shawn. Brandon Beemer skeeved me out. Kirsten Storms was too fake and obnoxious as Belle and we all know what a disastrous casting choice Charity Rahmer was! Martha Madison was OK (better than Storms and certainly better than, uh, Rahmer) but nothing special. I don't think anyone made Shawn or Belle work. I hated Chelsea for awhile but Rachel Melvin was a great actress her last couple years on the show. I wouldn't mind Phillip coming back. Even though Kyle Brandt often looked like he couldn't believe what he was saying, I liked as Phillip. Maybe just because he was hot. I liked Jay Kenneth Johnson a lot as Phillip. Members jo.frank88
Sungrey- I think you and I are basically saying the same thing. I believe that with the show going into such an important milestone year next year for the 50 the "new direction" of the show will be important. With both JS and AS Leaving I think we all agree that the show will have to (at least in some ways) head in some new directions... And there are so many viable 20s-30s characters out there that I feel belong on our screens much more than Melanie Jonas. Ones who are actually members of core families to continue the legacy and tradition of our show.
Members katie_9918
The only way this could be in the least entertaining is if Steve Carrell was the character related to Orangeman.

Members KMan101
Exactly. I'm not picking on sungrey here, I agree, bring back Matt Ashford and Peter Reckell but they have to be written for. I don't want them back as window dressing. Bring back Christie Clark and make Carrie NOT boring (and I actually thought she and Rafe had potential. Much more so than Jordan). Carrie used to have a little fire in her. She was like watching paint dry in her last return, for the most part, and I hate saying that. They never should have fired Thaao and killed Tony that way. Such a waste. I hate that Tomlin has some thing against true leading men. He drove most of them off of the show. I'd love to see Anna regularly involved again in the storylines. It was such a glaring mistake that she was there before and after Carrie but not during. Like, really? I think Shawn and Belle are necessary because of Hope and Bo's and Jarlena's estrangement. They can play supporting. And a real writer could write for them. I do agree they are a tad played out. They never should have been saddled with Claire. They can recast Chad, of all characters (who only worked for me personally because I liked what Casey was bringing to the role towards the end of his run) but they let Shawn, Belle, Jeremy, Nathan, and more rot off-screen? And not to mention they can bring on one of Sonny's brothers (um, hello Alexander! That would also give Adrienne and Justin something to do!). Was Ben really necessary? It's really not that hard. DAYS practically writes itself.
Members KMan101
I'd rather see him look confused all day long than watch Melanie guffaw and eat up the show.
Members sungrey
Kman, not offended at all! I am happy that Molly might return and I'd love to see others come back so Days resembles Days again. But everyone is SO right. It has to be good writing, and TomSell isn't it. I'd love to see what would have happened under MarDar had NBC not panicked and undid all the changes. Yes, MarDar were not perfect, but the show resembled Days again. I want to see others come back, but the stories have to be there. I'll support the supercouples because that's what I grew up watching, but give them good stuff and not just background fodder material. It's good we can have a civil discussion here. Other boards practically roast you alive if you dare like certain actors or characters. Here we can agree to disagree.
