more so he doesn't look old enough, but boiling it down - yes. I mean even the show thinks so. Why else has Devon/Bryton James not been pushed as a 'heartthrob' like at all, ever? It's not prejudice. Look at Neil/Tyler/Mason. Let's be really real here.

It is prejudice. My argument always go back to GR and MG. Neither of which are/were heart throbs but they were paired time and time again. Granted, Tyler and Mason were pushed as heart throbs but they were hired explicitly as eye candy too.

I think I know who "GR" is (Greg Rikkart?), but who is "MG"?

When, really, his bland-as-vanilla ass should've been shown the door eons ago.

And replace him with who?

Y&R has employed several higher profile Black celebrities (Eva Marcille, Darius McCrary, Tony Todd) & more talented (to some) Black soap vets in the past 10 years (Darnell Williams, Shemar, Keith Hamilton Cobb, Tonya Williams, Debbi Morgan, Veronica Redd) & NONE of them could make their characters work.

So it's not the actors who are the problem. It's the show itself.

Michael Graziadi. They were never shy about pairing him with anyone. He had quite a few over the years.

Any show that constantly pushes a fugly actor like Greg Rikaart as a heartthrob has no excuses.

GR is there strictly because he can act (better than most) and he's used (imo) to bolster young women the show was trying to make happen, and MG was Phyllis' son (plus connected to the Cassie SL which was draaaaaaaaaaaaaaagged on for years and years and years)... enough said. If Dru was still on the show, Devon would probably be THE leading man for the younger set... but alas.

They don't have to push every male character as a hearth throb just like I don't think every female has to be a flawed heroine. I don't think they ever pushed GR as a hearthrob but he still had romances. And they didn't have to push BJ as some heart throb either in order to give him an onscreen romance. By the way, I see lots of people thinking BJ is fine. The writers seem to be pushing something as they had him working out last week.

I think I'm more appalled by the fact that they hardly ever cast an AA actor who isn't mediocre and undeserving of any material thrown at them, let alone material as marginalized and WTF-inducing as what they're getting now.

Mediocre & undeserving?

Veronica Redd & Tonya Williams are respected actors with impressive resumes who have shown Y&R nothing but the utmost loyalty in the past couple decades yet Y&R hasn't seen fit to treat them or their characters with any respect.

A few years ago Walter Fauntleroy was treated as a glorified extra in a handful of scenes then just disappeared.

What Black actor could make that work?

do they, tho? Honestly? I don't recall any female character ever swooning over Kevin, like, ever.

he's a talent, and the show doesn't want to lose that. I still think Kevin being gay is the way to go w/ the meandering character... I mean why not?

Well, yes. I always felt that Devon suffered for not having Dru just as much as Neil did.

I don't think that she show was trying to make Jana happen as anything other than a love interest for Kevin. She was't a lead or anything of the sort. She only got story when they were throwing her under the bus Chloe/Kevin.

A decision which speaks for itself.

A character who is a serial pedophile & career criminal is always a viable romantic option because he's white while black actors are expected to walk on water just to justify their place on the show.

However that shouldn't come as a surprise however (look how long Daniel Goddard has been on the show).

He's been married how many times? Had how many onscreen love scenes? Had how many female characters (including KATHERINE & LILY) making constant excuses for his psycho behavior?

This is what I don't get from the audience and the discussion that we have on this board. Why does one expect EVERY black actor on the show to be the second coming in order to get story and treated as equal to their white counterparts who are mediocre? I am not telling anyone to support black actors "just cause they are black". All I am saying it admit that how they are treated is not right. And do it in a way that doesn't blame the actor. Because being vanilla and boring has never stopped any white actor from being leads and getting story.
