November 6, 201312 yr Member I honestly believe we are in agreement. You hit the nail on the head here. No one can tell me if this "story" were being told by a real writer and we took this old school that we'd be having this same argument. Imagine one of the writers from the 70s or 80s taking this story and giving you a reason to want these 2 together - you wouldn't buy it? How many times have we fallen for a couple because we took that emotional ride and were sold on them? I personally don't think the character of Franco can be redeemed into some harmless, charming leading man. That is partially because of the writing team we are dealing with, and partially because of Roger Howarth's inept performance. If this were being written by Marland, Nixon, Labine, etc. it would be a different story because it never would have happened like this. If they had wanted to make Franco a sustainable character (which I doubt they would), they would have never taken this lazy, cornered-in "brain tumor" route. We would have had months, maybe even years, of watching Franco grow, evolve, form a conscience - genuinely start to regret his actions and begin to make amends. With this regime it's "hey look I had a brain tumor and now I can't paint. Carly please [!@#$%^&*] my brains out"….I just don't see it working, ever. Back in the day we would never have been put in this position, because they wouldn't have gotten to that extreme point with Franco in the first place and then tried to bring him back in as a viable romantic lead with one of his own victims. Great minds. LOL. Edited November 6, 201312 yr by Mr. Vixen
November 6, 201312 yr Author Member Back in the day we would never have been put in this position, because they wouldn't have gotten to that extreme point with Franco in the first place and then tried to bring him back in as a viable romantic lead with one of his own victims. That said, we're not back in the day, we're right here with Carly and Franco. And it's unwatchable AFAIC. And you're right, the scenes are all crap, which was my initial point about the juvenilization and generic approach to every single pairing, regardless of age. It's particularly bad, though, when dealing with a character like Franco who has done so many things to Port Charles, to Carly's loved ones. You are ignoring a key factor here. Craptini gave you a reason for all of that behavior. Was it garbage? Absolutely, but it nonetheless explains FrankenTodd's behavior. According to you, Todd, Luke, James Stenbeck, Roger Thorpe, etc. should not have lasted more than 6 months, but they did and all were romantic leads. Good writing and character investment will get you everywhere!
November 6, 201312 yr Member Franco is not Luke, James, Roger or Todd. And we don't have good writing or character development, either. So why should any of us give a [!@#$%^&*]?
November 6, 201312 yr Author Member Franco is not Luke, James, Roger or Todd. And we don't have good writing or character development, either. So why should any of us give a [!@#$%^&*]? Vee, you are [intentionally] missing my point. I honestly don't believe we are disagreeing that much here, so I'll leave it at that. We're good
November 6, 201312 yr Member I am not intentionally missing your point, I simply have no idea what it is. As far as I can tell you're telling me that in another time and place this would work out great with better writing and a different character, admitting that it doesn't now, but telling me that I am still being unreasonable. I don't know how I am, but I don't know what else I can tell you. We're talking in circles. Edited November 6, 201312 yr by Vee
November 6, 201312 yr Member So far what I'm hearing about Bobbie's return is great stuff…I can't wait. Edited November 6, 201312 yr by Mr. Vixen

November 6, 201312 yr Member As a third party looking at this debate, I honestly don't think that you guys are disagreeing that much either. This issue I'm seeing is the one of what each of you as individual viewers is willing to accept/forget/handwave. RC is selling what he's selling and you are each doing what viewers do: deciding whether or not to buy it. We all decide for ourselves what our limits are and when a show has hit them. From your posts it simply seems like Vee has hit his limit whereas Chit, you are still willing to hang on. The funny thing is that neither of you is arguing that this is good writing. You're just fighting about the degree to which it sucks.

November 6, 201312 yr Member I'm not heated with Chit, she and I go around and around like this all the time. My tone can be hard to gauge, but I'm just fooling around. I think we mostly agree.
November 6, 201312 yr Member I was crying with laughter at Franco and Carly's conversation about Morgan and Derek, Lord I was not expecting that.
November 6, 201312 yr Member I wasn't sure whether to cringe or just laugh at how awful it all is. So bad. It's nice seeing Lucy and Scotty two days in a row. I also feel like I'm FINALLY seeing chemistry between Monaco and Easton again. Edited November 6, 201312 yr by KMan101
