Interesting. The Chew and The View are both doing really well which bolsters the argument that ditching soaps for reality/talk was a good idea. Yet GH is doing really well which helps make the argument that there is still a healthy audience for soaps. Although the fact that talk shows are cheaper will always be a factor in their favor. I wonder how Katie is doing in comparison with the rest of these shows.

I do like the Katie show(her guests and topics) but she comes off too fake. I thought Katie was going to be cancelled though?? K and M usually run in the 2.3 ratings for the week with Dr. Phil a little bit higher with Ellen leading the way....looks like Bethany and QL wont last long. I havent seen either show as of yet....

I like Bethenny's show, simply for her personality and some of her guests.

But I'm thrown off by the way they do Bethenny and Katie Couric's shows. Maybe this is a new thing and I'm just a fan of the past, but Katie and Bethenny sometimes do like 4 or 5 completely different topics throughout the course of one hour. I'm used to sticking with the same topic throughout the episode (or just celebrity after celebrity with a chef/singer/arts-'n-crafts person at the end).

Thanks.

Toups, I'm confused by GH's +549,000 over last year? Your archives here show GH at 2,578,000 for the same week in Sept 2012.

http://www.soapoperanetwork.com/2012/09/ratings-yr-hits-new-lows-in-women-18-49

I can't find any week last Sept that would produce that differential.

So far Sept 2013 shaping up to be GH's best month all year in demos.

GH 2013 monthly averages:

Jan 2013 2,834,200 653,600

Feb 2013 2,777,500 631,250

Mar 2013 2,612,750 611,500

Apr 2013 2,668,200 637,800 - 50th anniv/Nurses Ball

May 2013 2,550,750 617,750

Jun 2013 2,500,000 555,750

Jul 2013 2,455,600 588,800

Aug 2013 2,573,500 616,500

Sep 2013 2,768,000 694,333*

*Thru 9/20/13

GH is finally building back the buzz it got during the anniversary. GH was great January through April and then once the anniversary ended it had a weak spring all the way until August and then it reverted back to form with vets galore and Robin's return should only boost it bigtime since fans have waited years for her return. Its quite simple the OLTL gang brought nothing to GH but GH vets with GH history is what drives ratings. I hope Frank and Ron realize this throughout.

Kaka was heavily featured there for a minute, but they've seemed to reign that in a bit. She's still on a bit too much, however. John McBain's airtime has decreased as well. And surprisingly, out of the 3, Todd/Roger is seen the least. Not sure if this is his availability or Dumber and Dumberer have finally figured out that less of Roger goes a long way. No one wants to see that clown every day, and I was super shocked that they didn't find a way to shoe horn him into the Sonny/meds story. A few months ago, they made sure Roger was everywhere with everyone, and Carly didn't get any screen time unless he was on (what a turn off that was). That's changed, and we shall see under which circumstance.

I can deal with FrankenTodd better now that the ridiculous do is gone. And there is no reason to pretend this guy is anything but Todd now, Roger sure isn't.

    • I think Ben had already left while under Marland and only returned briefly to reconcile with Eve. The whole thing confuses me as I thought for a long time that Eve left the show to go be with him and that was when they reconciled, but it seems like he returned, they got back together, then he left and maybe they were still together until she left to join him? I have no idea.  It does seem like the interim writers were using some characters like Justin and Helena who were quickly dumped under Kobe/Long, which is a shame. Helena is one of those characters who likely always had a shelf life but Rose Alaio was such a vibrant screen presence, if Kobe/Long had just been patient, she likely would have fit in well in the Reva era.
    • Also, the lawsuit story was not the right story to bring Naomi and Bill into a court battle since those types of lawsuits are usually resolved via settlements.
    • I know that Sara did eventually become Carrie's therapist, but I was curious if the show had her make comments regarding Carrie's stunts of making it seem as though Justin was cheating on Jackie.  Given that Justin cheated on Sara with both Jackie and Brandy, I wondered if it was wise of her to counsel Carrie given the conflict of interest involved. @DRW50I think once Adam/Sara end up married.. Marland didn't see any reason to explore Sara's personal life after the actor playing Adam was released.  I know that Sara lasts until at least Christmas 1982 on the show.. but I don't think she ended up staying on for very long into 1983. The period between Marland quitting and Pam Long starting was the perfect time to clean house on characters that had outgrown their usefulness  (i.e. Ben, Evie, Sara, Jennifer, Morgan).. and tying up stories started by Marland that were too complex (Mona Enright, Mark/Jennifer/Amanda triangle).
    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
    • It's been a while, but we have seen the foyer to Bill and Hayley's house as well as the exterior entrance to their house. The foyer was first seen in the premiere episode when Hayley met Vanessa at the house.
    • There's still a year or two before Larkin arrives. Joel is there already. EON does noticeably youthify, although I think they carry it off. Admittedly I haven't seen most of the Jody stories, which from what people here have said aren't great.
    • I don't mind the actor who plays Brian. He's fine. The problem for me is that Paige seems so wishy wishy. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality at this point so I don't see why Brian would be so besotted with her. She just lurches from one trauma to the next. Granted, it's only been a month, but she's not as vibrant as April or even Deborah who has had minimal screen time by this point.  I do worry about the influence of GH on the show since I'm in fall of 1979 and characters have conversations and there's not the drive to "youthify" the show. However, I think Marceau (sp?) is gone. He was given a rather tame sendoff. How long was the actor on the show? I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I worry the show is setting up a murder mystery around one of my favorite characters and I will be mightily annoyed. I also noticed in recent Search for Tomorrow episodes uploaded to YT that the actors playing Logan and Eliot showed up. I don't watch the show but they were in the screencaps. When does Larkin Malloy show up or has he already left? Joel Crothers hasn't shown up either unless I've blinked and missed him.
