FX Canada drops AMC/OLTL!?!?!?

  • Member

On Friday May 17, both All My Children and One Life to Live were completely removed from the schedule and from FXC's website and replaced with re-runs of 30 Rock. This comes just one day after PP announced both shows are being cut to just two episodes per week. Fans here are not too happy. FX Canada was the ONLY place in Canada to watch the two soaps, as they are not available online here. No word yet from either FX Canada or PP.

LOL and then they would be binge watching? So Canadians can do that, but Americans should not...

Honestly, FX Canada would be wise to just air them in a two-hour block on Friday.

Unfortunately, that brings us right back to binge watching.

The situation in Canada is fundamentally different from the situation in the US. In Canada, the shows air at a set time (not taking DVR, VCR, etc, into account). Here, they do not. If FX Canada aired one episode daily for four days and then did an omnibus on the weekend, that would be akin to what's happening in the US, where the episodes are available on a daily schedule, but people aren't watching daily, instead choosing to watch several later.

IIRC, the "binge watching" comment was not made in regards to the FX Canada airings; it was strictly about Hulu views.

In that case, why Friday? Why not Saturday for AMC and MORE AMC, and Sunday for OLTL and MORE OLTL?

I think the More show should be a Hulu exclusive. Put a third show for both on Fridays, yes, and preserve the Friday cliffhanger (though I think both shows have done a pretty good job of cliffhangers everyday, myself, especially the final days of the week).

IMO, Saturday and/or Sunday as the ONLY option to watch these shows on TV would be disastrous, with the possible exception of them being on at night. But that's really just my opinion/preference. As progressive as I am, I'm not here for Saturday morning soaps (these soaps in particular, I guess -- I was definitely a fan of the Degrassi/Edgemont block that used to air Saturday mornings here when I was in high school).

No, I definitely think they could work only as nighttime, or at least late afternoon/early evening, omnibuses. Especially when Saturday and Sunday evenings have become a virtual wasteland for TV programming, IMO.

I also think the omnibus is a good idea. I used to watch the hell out of the PBS Eastenders omnibus, as well as Degrassi. Afternoons or evenings.

got to love Degrassi, loved those teen stories

I agree the More shows seem like featurettes and special features that don't deserve an episode..

It can be argued that weekend afternoons/evenings have become a TV wasteland because no one is really watching, though. Not that daytime is a on and poppin, but being that these were daytimers for so long, I figure it'd be easier for them to remain primarily daytime with other airings to supplement that. Now that they're an hour a week, that makes it even easier to drop a block of AMC here and there throughout the week. Have the premiere on Friday afternoon, repeat Saturday morning, Sunday night, Tuesday morning, etc. People who don't know will get mad when it's the same hour being aired all week long, but they'll deal.

I'm loving the entitled attitude.

Why not just wait and see? Even while each show was airing 4x a week on Hulu, FXC was always taking a big leap of faith airing them on TV.

Prospect Park doesn't seem to have consulted with FX Canada before their decision either so the lack of communication both ways is not surprising.

isn't this something @prospectpk seems to have no idea what is going on with @FX_Canada too! #AMC #OLTL;

so @prospectpk have not received any official word from @FX_Canada that #AMC and #OLTL have been pulled, the Q's is wouldn't FX notify PP

No-[!@#$%^&*]-body has any clue of what's going on, so let's please stop acting like we do!

Thank you!!!!

For once, I'm inclined to agree. I'm tired of drama. I'd rather wait until tomorrow and see what happens.
