Taping in May and airing in September. Ridamndiculous. Not even primetime shows have that much lead time.

Certain primetime shows actually do. IIRC the first half of the current season Psych was taped last fall.

However the lead time being 5 months in advance for a daily show is effin ridiculous! They can't even rewrite stories is they are flopping.

A lot of cable shows do. Pretty much all of the shows on HBO, Showtime, etc. are shot a good 4-6 months before they air.

I was thinking of network shows when I made that comment, I should have clarified. Most of them start taping in July for September premiere.

Good grief - why does DAYS have such a bizarre taping schedule? Seriously - 4+ months ahead? I don't get it from a cost-saving perspective, much less a storyline adjustment view. Soaps need to be nimble. I remember the disaster that GH faced when it taped months in advance (I believe 6 episodes a week for a few months) because of the 84 Olympics in LA. It was a partly because of predicted nightmare logistics in LA. It was awful - I think it was the two "Grants" story and it caused ratings to tank. Sony needs to rethink this if they want to get DAYS back up in the ratings - it should be doing better than it is.

They got so far ahead because the whole studio has to shut down for at least 12 weeks during the year. This means no one comes to work at all. So eventually they ended up 4 months ahead.
