I'm sure one soap or another has done a story about teenage girls mutilating themselves in times of extreme emotional distress. Haven't they?

Nope.

Oh, come on, not even GH?

Really, it's a time-honored tradition going back to Karen Wolek (or Donna Beck, or whoever). It's a classic story.

Frankly, I'm also glad it's not Destiny.

Wouldn't the emotional impact be bigger with Destiny, though? She's a young mother struggling to get by...plus it's a career path that literally no one in the canvass would expect from her.

I think it's a story more suited to Dani, in some ways. Dani, like some of the classic archetypes before her, is kind of a wild young woman - she wants things she can't totally define (a relationship with Matthew, freedom from her mother and her family and her bloodline's strife) and sublimates those desires into wild and reckless behavior. For her, that kind of experience could be an escape, until it isn't. I could've potentially bought into the story with Destiny, but I think the concept has an unfortunate racial angle coming right on the heels of the Cassandra story on AMC - which is good - and what's more, I think Destiny is and always has been a little too level-headed for that.

It could be about Destiny if OLTL had another AA female on their canvas who WASN'T following the same career path. Otherwise, though, it just smacks of racism.

This kind of story for Dani doesn't do much of anything for me as to me turning to someone who isn't the same age doesn't mean a path of destruction -- it didn't mean that for Joe.

The difference is Joey and Dorian entered into a genuine love relationship, no strings. Dani's (presumably) being wined and dined by powerful strangers for profit.

If these spoilers are true, then they really are taking Dani down the old rabbit hole of self-destruction, aren't they? (And to think, I actually backed away from suggesting she start self-mutilating, because I felt like she had enough going on.)

Sorry I'm a little confused...Are there actual spoilers about Dani and this plot? Or just speculation based on the one picture?

I think it is speculation based on one picture. I would think better of it if Dani was doing it for revenge...or some such. That story can be fun if the acting is good.

The set up is better for Destiny. She's being portrayed as sweet and innocent. She's struggling to make ends meet. She wants to be independent. She's disconnected from her peers. Her family isn't around. If Viki doesn't find a solution to The Banner crisis she could very well lose her job. She's not happy with her current job. I doubt Matthew will be stepping up anytime soon. I'm just wondering where all this is leading to because it feels as if the character is spinning in her cage.

With Dani it's just one more reckless act to add to the list.

Female cage fighting. Now THERE is something they could do with Destiny. ;)
