But what's interesting to me is the relationship between David and Jesse's wife.

Me, too. (I'm not saying I disagree with the antipathy between Jesse and David, even though Jesse wasn't there for most of David's years in Pine Valley. I just didn't know what caused it into being.)

We are so disagreeing. Myrtle was quirky. THe timehas come to have different types of tentpole characters.

Disagreed--Nixon is good at transitioning characters.

What are yourmemories of Ruth over the past twenty years?

I agree with you, Eric.

He's a good guy salt of the earth type like Joe but not the sanctimonious, hypocritical ass that Tad became.

Exactly.

Listen, guys, I'm probably on the same page as y'all when it comes to characters like Brooke. (Or, to put it another way, we probably agree more than we don't.) But perhaps it doesn't seem that way given everything I've said. For that, I apologize.

But you need characters like that, Eric. You need 'em, even if all they do is listen to other people's problems over a cup of coffee. Some might think that to be "boring" (which is precisely the excuse TPTB always need to dump 'em) but if you don't have one or two "grown folks" like Dr. Joe and Ruth Martin who can be counted on to remain stable and above the fray, and who can embody the series' basic ethics and speak essentially for the audience, then your show is rudderless, your other characters are rudderless, and you, yourself, are rudderless.

Yes and Opal would do that brilliantly--and quirkily. You miss my point entirely:)

I mean Brooke can do some of that--she already has. But dont retire her to the position yet--and I love Tom but her and him together right now would be too dull--we still have Joe remember.

Oh no need to apologize--we can respectfully disagree.

I'm sure I do. Mama Khan and I have had sort of the same problem lately: we'll agree 100 percent on something; and yet, you'll swear we're in total opposition. It's crazy.

Or perhaps I'm just being contrary for the sake of it? I dunno. *shrug*

I last caught a 1998ish episode of when Brooke plastered 15,000 pics of semi-nude teenagers against a wall somewhere and shot Jim 14 times in the back,

Image if that was someone's introduction to Brooke.

That was a dreadful, low point in Brooke's history. Someone should have stopped Megan McTavish from writing that b.s.

It was very... weird.

I don't think Brooke would ever do that --- even if he was a pedophile; she'd try to get him sent to prison or something.

Oh McTavish;'s late 90s run :) Where's the clip?

Exactly. Or if Jamie and/or Laura were in serious, physical danger -- like, if Brooke had walked in on Jim trying to attack one or the other.

Am I right, though, for remembering that Tad and Alfred Vanderpoole basically trumped up the evidence that got Brooke acquitted? Because, if that's what really happened -- it's a plot point I'd love to revisit, I'm just saying. wink.png

I mean, we want Brooke to have a good, juicy story again, right? And we want Adam to keep doing Adam-like things? Well, then, let's dig into history, even one that Megan helped create, in order to accomplish that.

I need to find videos of that. That was a time in my life where I wasn't able to watch much. I remember some scenes but I think I missed the worst of it.

IIRC, Jim told Brooke he was going to get Jamie into porn. That's when she blew him away.

I didn't blame her for killing him. I just hated the whole ridiculous story of Jim, underage pornographer/international terrorist. And I hated that the entire town then began running around doing funny gags trying to keep Brooke out of prison.
