Oh dear :( So we have the equivalent of The New Leave it to Beaver to look forward to?

In all seriousness--I agree with your point. It's obvious that, despite what I think the majority of us thought, PP are devoted to actually going at this with a level of professionalism and ambition that I can't think of any previous web show attempting before. A part of me is still a bit worried I'll end up regretting my ethusiasm, but it seems that they are taking this as seriously, and at a level, that I only could have dreamed they would, and I think it's also bringing an interest and maybe even a kind of awe-filled respect (even if I'm sure many in the industry are still predicting it will flop) to the soap genre that hasn't existed in a very long time (if ever) for trying something new.

First of all, I really can't stand how people claim Soaps ran there course, which is why Reality shows are taking over. Look at Drama and Comedy. They existed since the Greeks. They changed throughout time of course but you always had them. Soaps are new. I also hate how Non-Soap viewers tend to think Soaps are still used as marketing gimmicks, which was there original purpose. What is so Cheezy about Soaps? Sorry Eric, you got me on a roll..lol

Second of all I wonder if PP is successful and AMC/OLTL went back to the character-driven style and went back to the roots that made the shows great in the first place the networks will stop interfering with GH/Y&R/B&B/DOOL and hire people that CAN write for the shows and start investing in the quality. I can totally see ABC hiring Clair/Wendy for GH and someone kicking Corday to the curve. On a side note who CAN write for Y&R because from my understanding Bill Bell was the only one that could.

The good thing about this is that the online fans will be counted. If this went to TV PP will more than likely add both numbers together.

I started looking up What's Happening Now! (although I have seen the show) and this is totally off topic but did you know that Henry Mancini (the Pink Panther theme song) wrote the theme music for What's Happening! ?ohmy.png Boy they weren't kidding around with theme music back then!

I also got totally sidetracked reading about the show's creator/writer Eric Monte and I wonder what he is doing-- he had some hard times but with his talent and experience I wonder why he isn't at the very least teaching at some writing program somewhere.

Okay, I'm sorry for eating up the thread with such an OT.

In terms of PP's venture, hopefully some good reputable companies will want to sign on to do advertising (JCPenney might want to look into online ads since they've lost millions recently). I know Hulu Plus is subscriber based but I think at the very least, PP is going to want to do a mix and not completely rely on subscriptions.

    • Same This show can be so frustrating to watch because of the awful one sided writing.
    • It was quite interesting. Drew is seriously grossing me out. I know they'll never get rid of CM, but this brewing up to a good murder mystery.
    • But their scenes are always fun...given whom HW name is on the top that day.
    • I had to hit FF the minute he showed up on the screen. It's too much.
    • Oh, yes! It's Nurse Ball Week, isn't it?   Lord give me strength...or apparently a good catfight going by the above.
    • It's still dragged though. Nina and Carly's fight was good, and although it was intensely weird, I actually paid attention to the Curtis and Drew scenes.
    • Dante STFU!! Gawd this Gio hate is so forced. Dante blame your idiot son! He's responsible for landing in the hospital.
    • I think Steve and Chase (with Adair) are dropped fairly quickly into John Whitsell's run as EP. I didn't think Tomlin wanted those characters out especially given how much effort was put into resetting Chase, a character Tomlin didn't create, and Adair by placing them at the paper, testing Adair with Ryder, and then having Chase discover Estelle was alive. Steve got an actual onscreen goodbye, but Chase and Adair later go an offscreen exit to San Francisco or somewhere else in California.  They chem tested Steve Kendall and Suzi in September, 1983, just as Elizabeth Swankhammer started as Suzi. Steve saved Suzi drowning in a lake on location. I felt that Suzi / Steve was meant to be the post-Suzi/Warren story with Stephanie possibly manipulating Suzi and Warren to keep both Warren / Wendy and Steve / Suzi apart. I assumed the plan was (at some point) Stephanie / Lloyd. Or it should have been.  I don't think Bela should have lasted beyond the circus story. If I had to sit through some sort of triangle, I would want to see it end with Bela dead. Even in a bad recycled plot, but ultimately I don't think Bela had any real story potential and should never have been paired with either woman. Under Mayer/Braxton, Sarah became more conservative and judgemental over the course of the last month or so of their run. I don't think Tomlin's version was as layered from what I remember.  @DRW50 I think Conroy lasted a full year June, 1984 - July, 1985. I always assumed he left, but that was just speculation. Phillip Brown's Steve just seems to have disappeared.      Cook played Lloyd's first wife and Steve's mother, who was named something other than Estelle, in a flashback sequence to reveal the secret that Martin was Steve's father. She had a name other than Estelle at that point. This would have been fall of 1983.
    •   Vanessa is bordering on nasty ho territory. Normally I agree with you @Soapsuds but not on this. Dani opened up to Andre about her insecurities since the end of her marriage, and Andre listened and supported her. Their booty call hook ups are so turning into love.
