AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

So what? Characters like Tara, Phil, Chuck, Greg, Jenny, Ellen, Mark, Cliff, Nina, Nick, etc. all had their lengthy runs too, they had their time. Eventually that time ran out when their story was exhausted. I could go on with a long, long list of people before I got to Ryan and Greenlee. They are no different and no more special.

I have the facts on my side that Cameron Mathison was approached and signed the first time and we know that. Prospect Park would have welcomed them back. It wasn't Prospect Park's "decision" not to bring him back, which is what Steve, who I was responding to, was saying.

My supporting sentences for why it would be a good idea for them to be back, was extra personal opinion from me. You can disagree with that opinion. And that's fine. But the fact is Mathison, and almost certainly Budig, were approached. Period. This was not Prospect Park's "decision."

I guess this is something else to thank the soap opera gods for.

PP's decision or not, they ain't there and I think it's a very good thing for AMC.

But you didn't tell me why it's a good idea for them to be back other than "people know them." They know all the other vets too, and unlike frontburnering Ryan and Greens together for years they didn't drive the show into the ground. Give me one example of how Ryan and Greenlee weren't played the !@#$%^&*] out by 2011 and how to interest the audience in any more of their mess and I'll consider the merits of bringing them back ASAP. Otherwise, good riddance.

I wouldn't mind visits from Cameron, who I like, and I wouldn't even mind Greenlee back on contract someday, alone. But Ryan as a leading man is played out and Greenlee needs at least five years rest AFAIC.

Greenlee and David had a great story. It had shades of David and Anna - two equally matched gray characters who had a sparring love for each other. There was so much history there too with their interaction all the way back to when Leo was alive.

Then it just fell apart when the show decided to put Greenlee and Ryan back together. But Greenlee is far from spent, she just needs the right writing.

As for Ryan, the generic hero role is probably more tired, I'll agree with you there.

I will say both actors clearly still have a lot of fans (verifiable in Twitter following), fans they would bring to the new show who may not watch otherwise. You may say "people know them" is not much of a reason, but it kind of is.

I would take Rebecca Budig back over Cameron Mathison.

I also would like AMC 2.0 to reintroduce Robert "Bobby" Martin (Joe's Long Lost Son) and also Paul Martin (Joe's Brother) on the canvas.

I hope Daniel Cosgrove comes back as Scott Chandler and would love to see him have Twins (nod to Adam and Stuart) to create a family.

IDA on this description. Anna wasn't a gray character...she was a heroine. She was nowhere near David's level of bad when they got together. Their story was more of a good cop getting together with the town pariah/criminal. I wouldn't call them equally matched gray characters. It was very lopsided in terms of their morals and how they approached things

Unfortunately, that story has been tried more than once and was mishandled. And here and now, David and Cara have a following. There's no going back to 2010 or 2011, nor would most of the audience then or now want to.

I'm sure that was Frons's rationale for a decade, too. It damn near (I can only qualify it as such now) killed the show. There's always the danger of too much of a good thing and they reached that saturation point during the Bush administration.

I think PP/TOLN are probably in talks with Rebecca Budig, Walt Wiley, Daniel Cosgrove (Friend of Paos Revolution), Bobbie Eakes (Friend of Kassie DePaiva)

Cameron Mathison, Alicia Minshew, Jennifer Bassey, Lee Meriwether and Susan Lucci I'm not concerned about.

I seriously do want Walt back as Jackson. I was just talking about him earlier to my mom. Jack was my favorite guy after Tad.

+1. I know Cameron had been signed previously but I wasn't aware he was asked again.

ITA! By the time the show ended, Greenlee had transformed too far for me from the original poor little rich girl who fell in love with Leo. I couldn't stand the smug Stepford wife she turned into when married to Ryan. I wouldn't mind Ryan coming back eventually without her.

There's no point in Bobby Martin ever coming back, though; he disappeared so long ago and wasn't mentioned onscreen in over 35 years (unless you count Opal finding the skeleton with the Bobby hat and skis in the Martin attic).

I love the idea of Scott & Madison returning with twins!

Yeah, it was lopsided. I liked it though because Anna's biggest flaw dating back to when she was involved with Duke on GH was that she would fall in love with a bad guy and not see just what he was up to. I just can't watch GH these days and see how dumb they've made her now.

Damn, I'm just looking at the photo shoot footage..... and it's AMAZING!

Better than anything ABC has done in decades.

The bed shot reminds me of the season 4 Queer As Folk DVD cover: hehe!

Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't they tape weekends on ABC, too?

BTW, I also love that Debbi is front & center in that shot. Since La Lucci is absent, Debbi is the top star now.....maybe she even secretly wishes Susan won't join. tongue.pngbiggrin.png

Not that I don't think Debbi deserves to be front and center, but I don't get how you see that from the photo. She has a person in front of her and is stage right in the photo. Jill Larson looks close to dead center.
