I'm finally watching this tonight and here are my running thoughts:
I hate to dog on someone, but Alan Locher just drives me crazy. He messes up the intro, he doesn't pay attention because he's clicking around on his computer and his eyes are going all over the computer screen. It just takes away from the interview. I also wonder if he ever really watched non-CBS shows. He eventually got better, but anyway, I started watching only Rodney's camera and it made it much better. Rodney was so prepared and articulate and I'm so happy he was here to give his story. I loved to hear that his family was a fan of OLTL and GH back in the 60s. And that's where I get conflicted, because I love that Alan is able to get these interviews for us, so I'd rather have this than nothing at all. Ok, rant over... this was amazing and I'm so happy to see that 30 years later, this is important and people remember. I'll never forget watching this story as a 12-year old boy and thinking holy crap...
I loved Chris Bruno, but I hate the fact that he took this interview in a parking lot, looking like a guido gym rat. He gives me Frank Grillo (Hart, GL) vibes. He did take it seriously once he found a stable spot, so I'm glad he made the best of the situation. His story about his dad and trans people was very sweet... Interesting that he remembered Dixie's name and how he was originally going to be her love interest. Wow, he still stays in touch with the old Scott Chandler, Timmy Dillon, Anita Santos... and then he's the Godfather of Mark and Kelly's firstborn?!?! That is wild, I love it. I love how Chris seemed so proud and happy to hear that AMC won the Emmy for Best Writing for this storyline. Ok I forgive, sorta, Chris for taking this interview from a parking lot on his phone only because he actually loved this and was so happy about this.
And wow, Rodney is still a teacher in rural Missouri, which is where I grew up and where my family still lives. I wonder where in MO he is, I'd love to meet him one day. His confidence and overall demeanor was actually quite attractive, which personally I'm surprisingly myself.
And they even brought up the AMC revival! Hahaha...
I'd love to hear @EricMontreal22's thoughts on this interview... hope you're still around!
