AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

Getting the loyal, core audiences to watch was easy. Most, if not all, would have returned just because their shows had. Lapsed viewers might have returned as well, depending on how much they missed AMC or OLTL. However, in order to keep these shows "on the air," so to speak, PP needs AMC and OLTL to engage new viewers. IMO, that should be the main objective here, not just giving the outraged fans their "children" back. That's why I asked up-thread how successfully AMC and OLTL had completed the task of getting people who weren't familiar to check them out online, given their accessibility. I wish someone had conducted a survey to answer this important question. Because, depending on these kinds of results, I think it's highly possible for Hulu and/or PP to consider developing and producing new soaps down the line.

Thats part of the fun and why I love soaps. If I decided to tune into any given soap on monday for the first time without ANY prior I would be learning about the characters and storyline the same way old audience members would except the fact that old audence members have a sense of familiararity.

The advantage soaps have over all other mediums is that we learn about the characters the same time the actors learn about the characters and the same time the characters learn about the characters. There is a reason why they are known as "Continuing Stories" and it's not beacuse the story development and character exploration ends.

Also, Being able to figure out story the same time as everyone else renders the principle behind releasing DVD's to the public because, again THE STORIES DON'T END. IF THEY ARE CANCELLED THEY JUST LINGER ON IN YOUR IMAGINATION!

I actually agree that he's not that great of an actor, but he's at least as good as most of the twentysomethings playing teens who get top billing.

He used to be better when he was younger. Fans dogged on him then too but he still made an impact as Tony Santos.

If anyone should be raising AJ right now, it should be Dixie. Brooke might be Adam's fiancee, but from a legal standpoint, she isn't AJ step-grandmother yet. Meanwhile, Dixie is the only one who has remained in PV these past "five" years, as Adam implied in the first episode that he's out of town a lot. So, unless she arranged for AJ to live with Adam at the Chandler mansion, it makes no sense to me that AJ lives there. (Wait, where IS Dixie living these days?)

    • I would have preferred it happened off screen as well.  The excitement his family had about him coming back makes it that much sadder and tragic.  I don't really need to see a family say goodbye to not-John.   I won't even go on my Orpheus rant who's beef is actually with Roman and not John.

    • I don't like it, but… Roman originally died falling off a cliff, while fighting Stefano.  That's completely beyond the limits of today's production, but I think the Orpheus tangent paid homage to that idea.  And, as we've discussed, it would be difficult to determine who John's ultimate mortal enemy would be, that is still alive.  It is arguably is not Orpheus, whose been more of a pain to Marlena. I object to it not happening off-screen.  I can think of a dozen ways that Marlena could be watching a live stream, and we see it from her POV. Or, Shane has to tell the family that he died in the line of service.  Or, Andrew has to tell the family that John died saving him, and he feels guilty. What I don't like is the tacky optics of watching not-John in danger, and presumedly watching people say goodbye to not-John.   From the establishing shots, to the costuming, to this casting choice, it appears that DAYS has more problems with the visuals than the dialogue.  All things being equal, that's not a terrible place to be. To @carolineg's point, I believe John would've at least texted his wife that he was back in Salem and home soon.
    • We will agree to disagree on this.  He would go see Marlena first, explain he has to help Bo, and then go meet Steve, Shawn, Hope, etc.  I know that realistically isn't possible, but John would never keep Marlena hanging like that IMO.  She's always been the most important person to him. There were also MULTIPLE people working on the Bo situation.  John could have taken 1/2 hour to see Marlena especially when she was obviously so worried about him.
    • I disagree. I think John would do the right thing and help Bo first if Bo's life were in danger, and that his family would love him for being true to those ideals.  To me, that's just who John is.
    • His father, Sir William McMahon, served as the 20th Prime Minister of Australia from 1971 to 1972
    • Yes.  I am not capable of telling you what my perfect ending would be for John, but I think it would involve being a hero and taking out Orpheus or even a now alive Stefano or something.  But then they would win.  Idk, it just an impossible circumstance for the writers.  There is no way the John we know would just immediately go help Bo before going to see his family.    I had a similar feeling when John was killed off in a "random" car accident years ago, but that obviously wasn't permanent.
    • When I double-checked with the publicist last night about this, she immediately got Jamey to issue the correction that he posted less than 20 minutes after I contacted her. Drake did not do any new voiceover work for this storyline. Any Drake stuff you hear is flashback audio.
    • Watching the Netflix series The Residence and did not recognize Julian McMahon (Ian Rain on Another World) as the Australian Prime Minister until I looked him up.
    • I just watched yesterday's episode and I liked it!  I didn't think the ATWT reference was cheesy, I really loved it. This was actually the first episode where I enjoyed June, so that's a plus haha.
