HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

Don't be nervous. It's true that PP's goal is to make these shows younger/hotter/hipper, but we've all been around long enough to know that that's the nature of the soapy beast. I don't think the vets will merely launch the shows and be dispatched after week five. I think RSW is just stressing the importance of OLTL and AMC maintaining their identities with strong, familiar, veteran characters, especially when the loyal audience will be introduced to a fair share of recast younger characters and newbie originals.

I don't know, and I don't think anyone does except PP and they really don't talk much do they? Perhaps it's a little bit more erratic here at the beginning just so they can have something produced, say a weeks worth of episodes for both shows and a couple of promotions, in time to meet the deadline they're operating under.

It was expedient to them to bring them over and mix things up, and a blind man could've told me they were going to try John with Sam. I don't think trying something new with some of these characters is the same as hating what came before, but that's me.

How they used them is a matter of debate, but IMO if they hated OLTL and disdained all these characters' other ties, they wouldn't keep referencing them or having them appear on the show. They wouldn't keep going back to that well. We know they wanted Natalie to appear though that may never happen now. They would just do what so many other soaps have done with unwanted attachment from other shows or stories - kill them the !@#$%^&*] off. ATWT did it to Vicky Hudson only a couple months after AW's happy ending; Genie Francis's Ceara got gunned down when she went to Loving without bothering to bring the actress back. There was one real simple, brutal, time-honored way to cut the cord and they didn't do it, because they cared about OLTL. Whether they care enough or the right way is another discussion. But the bottom line is those characters are now all still alive and viable a year later, and I am very grateful for that.

I disagree. I think circumstances dictated a lot of what they did in the beginning. They thought they were going to be cancelled in September. I think they were trying to set up some kind of hybrid under the assumption that combining the two shows would give a new production a better chance of success and better marketability than either on their own. It was tactical, not affectionate, that they kept the ties to Llanview as long as they did. As soon as they had word of extension, they pretty much stopped keeping those ties open. I cringe to think what that would have looked like if they'd been given that opportunity. And I do not think they could kill off Natalie and Liam without permission from PP. They couldn't do anything else with them.

I'm not going to keep arguing about this. We will just have to agree to disagree.

I'm so tired of the arguments about Ron Carlivati. Don't get me wrong, I know this is a discussion board and I'm NOT trying to dictate what other people talk about and I acknowledge my part in it but it simply makes me sad to see so much talk about someone who is, IMO, an average writer and an unprofessional attention whore eat up so much bandwidth in the online soap verse. It's the same way I feel when the media talks about 50 Shades of Gray or Lady Gaga. I hate seeing mediocrity garner all this attention.

I dearly hope that a year from now AMC and OLTL are doing well and we are all engrossed in talking about the stories on both instead of post after post on thread after thread talking about RC (and FV) like they're bringing us Game of Thrones.
