She's as close as we have to the originator, Irna Phillips. I'm sure everyone could give a long list of her flaws as a writer, she probably could too, but I think she probably still has the best idea of what a soap is and should be than anyone else in daytime ever has, except maybe Bill Bell. I just wish that she'd been able to do stuff without network interference around ten, fifteen, twenty years ago. I'm sorry that the cable soaps never really took off.

I have to admit that I'm one of those people who probably talks about Agnes like she's a combination of Wonder Woman, Scheherazade and Maya Angelou but...I treasure the art of storytelling and I think that Agnes is one of the best storytellers in the genre. I try (and perhaps, fail) not to be a blind follower of hers but there are simply writers whose work I trust even when I don't agree or like it. I like to think that I'm willing to call out even my absolute faves when they misstep but that doesn't keep them from being my faves.

Frankly, as long as I have to watch Jamey, Nelson and Fairman felch RC and FV then the people who are tired of the Agnes love just need to suck it up. No pun intended.

The only thing that bothers me about AN is when I get the impression that she's been dishonest about her true feelings in order to go with the flow and "play the game" so to speak. I understand that there are games one must play when in the business, but these so-called blessings from her to alter her work (especially when we're talking about her classic, groundbreaking storylines) and whatnot, acting like she was fine with it when she probably wasn't, yeah, I don't really care for that.
