GH: December 2012 Discussion Thread

I MISSED YOU.

And fully agree. Glad to see I'm not alone, as there seems to be a LOT of Ron-Kool-Aid being drunk these days.

The whole thing has been horribly written from the start, and Felix is just the icing on the cake.

He's doing good, not perfect, but he's trying, more than Guza, Pratt or any other HW has done in recent years. Ron is miles better on GH than he ever was on OLTL.

I just wish some would stop being so damn close-minded when it comes to anything RC, no one's saying kiss his arse or anything, but keep an open mind, which it's obvious some don't want too cause they might have to give RC praise for something they'll like

If that's drinking kool-aid then so be it

Frankly, I'm more concerned that Ronnie C. had any character, let alone Felix, pull out a tube of lipstick as some sort of foreshadowing for

Lucy's big return

. To me, that's just bad storytelling, with and without the added controversy.

How is that bad storytelling?

Yeah you lost me on that one Khan how is that bad storytelling, it's tying into another character that isn't a newbie. That's what you do with newbies, you write stories for them connected to core characters

Because I believe there are more exciting and compelling ways to let me know that

Lucy is on her way back to town, and is now in charge of a cosmetics company

. That's all. Again, it has nothing to do with Felix, his sexuality, how he pays his way through school, or anything else we've been talking about.

and they have been utilizing other ways. We had that big picture of her at the end of the show and Sabrina has mentioned her several times. The Nurses Ball talk has been the big anvil on that. I didnt even think that Felix randomly pulling out lipstick had anythign to do with that until someone mentioned it here. It was very subtle and didnt scream of

Lucy at all. Now had he said this was the latest Jax cosmetics

lipstick and applied a brand to it, then that would be a different story

Someone mentioned that Felix has the same last name as Billy Dee's character on Night Shift. It's frustrating being teased by the potential gold mine of s/l there. Daytime's (television's??) first black father/gay son relationship is an extraordinary opportunity.

Honestly, Cheap, I felt as if all that played like some weird product placement deal that

some cosmetics company

had worked out with GH. You know, like Campbell's Soup and ALL MY CHILDREN and ONE LIFE TO LIVE during their Heart Healthy Week (or whatever)? I halfway expected the show to run mock ads during commercial breaks, too.

But seriously, none of that you've mentioned really has me excited about what's coming up. Don't get me wrong: I'm excited, but I feel as if the build-up -- all of the build-up -- should have been bigger. Much bigger.

Id be more excited if it wasnt Ugly Betty being used to usher her back in.

That I'll agree on, I hate that Liz is being shuffled out on this. Liz and Patrick should be the ones trying to get the money for the Nurses Ball

I will jump in as a black, gay, L'Oreal True Match Super-blendable powder wearing male and PROUD ANTI-RON CARLIVATI GH watcher to say... I saw nothing wrong with Felix. Between Felix and Sabrina, I think Sabrina is the worst "stereotype." A girl, who is a student nurse, that blushes like she's 12 whenever Patrick comes around shirtless? A student nurse that doesn't know how to brush her hair? A woman in her early 20s that never applied LIPSTICK before? THAT'S the stereotype I have a problem with. But Felix is true to life. He's true to me, actually. I remember being in my early 20s running around with drag queens, being completely fascinated with the life... but they shunned me because, according to them "bitch, you dress too much like a boy! You know you LIVE!" And, yeah, I did, but I was also me. But to them, they felt I was trying to present a hetero-normal appearance instead of embracing what they thought MY GAY should be. I was out, in life and at work, but still I wasn't "gay" enough for this group of gay men. The thing is, there are levels and there are layers. No one gay black male is going to be THE representative. Within black culture there are all kinds of road blocks that even black gay men can't understand, much less a gay Italian soap "writer." For instance, you look at 17 year old rap artist "Chief Keef" and his video "...I Don't Like." That dude is a gangbanger, bouncing around shirtless with other shirtless males, arms wrapped around each other without a single female in sight... yet that's what "straight" men do. A black man wears skinny jeans and suddenly he's gay? So to expect a perfect representation of a black gay male from a white gay writer -- when black males as a whole have a LOAD of issues that need to be worked out is damn near impossible.

Very well said. Life is just too vast and gray to represent everyone on a soap opera. The most we can hope for is that they at least try.

I kind of rolled my eyes when they managed to give Felix a line about show tunes too, perhaps laying it on a little too thick. But I'd be lying if I said that I didn't know a gay man who obsesses over talks about musicals. There's always going to be that fine line between stereotyping and authenticity.

All in all, I found Felix harmless and inoffensive. Let's see if he even lasts long enough to warrant the fuss.

Some folks disagree with me when I talk about my desire for black characters who talk or act a certain way beyond what we typically see on soaps. What I'm always trying to get at relates to what R. says above. People may share a race or a sexuality, but there's no one way to be that race or sexuality, and I don't think I'm trying to promote stereotypes by hoping to see a wider spectrum of people represented on screen.

If you watch her stand alone scenes on YouTube as some fans have edited them, it's almost surreal.

Im surpised they didnt become an item bc there definetly was seeds planted before Robin even died. If he was just starting to date now and getting closer to Liz, probably would also make for a stronger story when Robin does return. Who cares about Brit and Sabrina fighting over him. Liz could have been a good choice to get Lucy back considering her past involvement with the NB
