Members Gray Bunny
Yes, it was weird when GL started saying it was Illinois. And during the Conboy/Weston era, Jeffrey O'Neill and Ross Marler even referenced Springfield as being the state's capital. GL's Springfield as a state capital... since when?? I would've thought it'd make sense for Springfield to be located in Michigan, since so much of it borders water with lighthouses galore.
Members aMLCproduction
Jer's Salem was NewEngland, but other times its Illinois based. Harmony was either Maine or new England some where,AMS yes to Secret Storm
Members BKuzak
I heard General Hospital didn't even get a "state/town name" until the early 70's. I wonder how long it took other soaps to say where they were from. At least we know that Bold and Beutiful is in Beverly Hills...which is California. all the other soaps have made up town names like Llanview, Genoa City... Well Salem is a real name but there are a lot of places called Salem in the US.
Members Gray Bunny
Genoa City is based off real-life Genoa City, Wisconsin, a town name that the Bell family used to drive past. Of course, the real-life Genoa City doesn't have skyscrapers and whatnot.
Members beebs
AMS, yes, in one of Bo & Hope's early on-screen encounters, it was said that Bo & Hope used to play together as kids, so the Bradys were always in Salem.
Members BKuzak
They just weren't seen until years after the show was on. The show was bascially about the Horton's in the begining.
Members soapfan770
During the flood on SFT it seems to me the Weather Channel guy(Paul Edwards cameo?) pointed at real life Henderson, Kentucky for Henderson's exact location. There is a real Bay City in Michigan which I think caused much of the confusion for AW.
Members beebs
I remember on the AOL videos posted back in the day either pointedly stated or at heavily implied Bay City was in Michigan (I think it was in regards to the storyline about the casino opening on the edge of town in 1981). But I know that by 1989 for certain (as noted on Mac's last letter to Rachel), Bay City was said to be in Illinois.
Members Pine Charles
Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan. LOL.
Members MissLlanviewPA
My family's from Arkansas. It is a Southern state through and through. Southern Missouri is more Southern than Midwestern, though, so it's borderline.
Members edgeofnik
ATWT was definitely Illinois because of all the Chicago references. Additionally, TEON had to be Illinois because "Oakdale" was where Draper/April lived. It was kind of funny that they used Oakdale when the show moved to ABC rather than one of the ABC soap locations.
