Members DeeeDee
Those countries have soaps where actors of color aren't used as tokens to make certain viewers feel better.

Members DeeeDee
British soaps have run for decades because diversity wasn't just a word used to avoid NAACP/NCLR pickets.
Members Ryan Chamberlain
British TV on the whole is more diverse compared to American TV. I watch too much BBC America.

Members y&r_fan
I don't know enough about UK soaps but I don't think race/nationality is anywhere near as important to the Australian audience as it is to the US audience. Australian soaps very rarely have actors of color at all. And Y&R, Days and especially B&B all continue to thrive in Australia despite their lack of diversity in recent years. Members SFK
U.S. daytime could have learned so much from that show, seriously. Going back to the original let alone TNG. At it's best, it was great soap.
Members Khan
Yep. Papa Bell could have nicknamed him "Mandingo" instead and even THAT would have been more dignified.

Members DeeeDee
It's the same reason you don't see older actors even though Golden Girls was a huge hit.
Members Ryan Chamberlain
I miss the sitcoms with the older actors. Amen, with an older Sherman Hemsley. Empty Nest, which was Richard Mulligan. He was hilarious. (That was a GG spin-off). Barney Miller. (Abe Vigoda was hilarious). Those were some damn good shows. And, Barney Miller was very diverse. They don't do anything right anymore. Soaps, dramas, or sitcoms.
