But he really wasn't there for him. How may times was Ricky mentioned on screen, before he popped up as an adult? How many times did Paul say he was going to visit his son? Since Eva Longoria left the show, Ricky was probably mentioned less than 10 times. And yes, alot of it can be placed solely on the writers not giving much of a damn about Paul's character and ignoring his history for years, much like Jack's forgotten Asian child, but at the end of the day Ricky was an afterthought. Poor writing? Yes. Retconned? No.

What reason did Paul have to give up his child? Paul wasn't hurting for money, nor was he incapacitated. He shipped his child off to live with two elderly people and called it a day. No matter how you dice it Paul, a man with means and capacity, just gave his son up, with no reason to back it up. Deadbeat, Absentee Father, Weekend Dad, whatever...the point is he wasn't there.

But he WAS there for him.

There's a big difference between being a part time parent (which Paul was) and abandoning a child (which Aunt Jack more or less did).

Before he was SORASED Paul had a good relationship with him and visited him regularly to the point where he knew how Ricky was doing and how his education was going.

It IS a retcon.

Because unlike with Jack & Keemo or Jill & Philip/Billy or Katherine & Brock (or even arguably Lauren & Scotty) Paul made a CHOICE to stay in Ricky's life. Again he may not have been a full time parent but he was a factor in Ricky's life.

And despite the lack of focus on Paul & his family by the writers in the last few years it was an established fact that Paul was a part of Ricky's life and it wasn't until Y&R decided to make Ricky into their newest psycho for a ratings stunt (like with Esther and Chloe) that Paul became an abandoning parent.

At the time Paul felt Ricky would be better off with the Branas. It didn't make a lot of sense for Paul (from a character POV) but since the Branas weren't bad people (despite Isabella) it wasn't a bad choice especially since Paul stayed in Ricky's life (unlike with Victor & Adam or Paul & Heather) AS a parent.

Just because a person has the means and capacity doesn't mean they would make a suitable parent.

Giggly Heffa (who at the time had a rich and famous husband) loved her son but that didn't stop her from committing felonies that had her ruled to be an unfit parent & caused her to lose Daniel for years nor did it make Sharon (who was also married to a rich man with a large extended family) fit enough to raise Cassie & Noah when she had her breakdown.

And being a full time parent doesn't make children perfect.

How many times has Victoria been married? Is Traci to be blamed for Colleen's death? Are Nick & Sharon to blame for Cassie's? Is all the trouble Abby has gotten into in the last few years Ashley, Brad & Victor's fault?

So Eden has amnesia? Whatever. Aren't Daisy's wallet and phone still in that suite? Why does Eden think she was there, anyway? Where's the knife? And where the hell is Isabella? Ten minutes away in the GC Loony Bin, next door to Aunt Patty?

Catching up with Y&R now - hence totally late to this party - that they have revisited Phyllis past...

I just reached the miscarriage episodes where at the aborted (oops) Phick wedding Sharon Case was SUPERTANNED and the haircolor a bigger mess than ever before. She looked soooooo trailer trash. Please tell me they changed that in the mean time.

ICAM. The actress is ok
