I didn't like the "very special episode" of Arrow. It felt really heavy handed and out of place. If the writers want to write about issues, they should really invent a better avenue to do that.  I  did appreciate Wild Dog's backstory though.

I think I officially hate this season. Everything from Felicity's speedbump/cop boyfriend to that little bitch turncoat whose name I can't remember, that awful reporter, and Adrian Chase being some weird blend of therapist/villain for Ollie.

It's been kind of stunning for me to realize how little the original cast has been on this season. Good luck catching Thea or Lance lately. Even Felicity and Digg seem to have disappeared (ok. More Digg than Felicity, who has a storyline this season.) I know some of that is budget. But it's also ripped the core of the show away.

They managed to suck all the joy out of my Laurel-free season.

I'm fine with the darker tone of Arrow (the silliness of Flash and Super girl sometimes drives me nuts), I just don't don't think they've executed it well. I was much more interested in black crime Lord dude at the beginning of the season, who Vigilante is, and the Russian back story than I  about Chase and Talias daddy fueled revenge.

I also find it ironic that an entire crisscrossing universe, the only repeat guest star was Lyla. I miss Tatsu, Nyssa, Donna, malcolm.

The problem with Arrow's dark side is it often seems very try-hard and like a cheaper version of something others did a long time ago. It reminds me a lot of how DC choked itself out with endless repetitions of misery comics and misery for the sake of sales boosts. I'm not surprised viewers have fled the show.

I do think TIIC were going for a shock value here, and got caught up in how "brilliant" they thought this story arc was. Maybe in season 1 or 2, you could say Ollie "liked" killing on some level....but after 4 seasons, when we've seen him progress and refrain from killing---it's a BS move. I'm sure they're going to link this back to Felicity's "hacktivism" going completely off the rails, but it seems like an extreme move with little upside.

I think moving away from a "who's trying to blow up Star City this year" and doing a political corruption story line was a good idea. They just didn't trust in it enough.

I know Barrowman's been spread out in the FlArrowverse---but Malcolm seems to be almost an afterthought on LoT. His appearance  on the Flash musical episode was the best thing about it. Singing "Put a Little Love in Your Heart"---hilarious.

Can't deny being a Felicity and Olicity fan...but I just think Cassidy's a blah actress, and has been since episode one of Arrow. I'd never seen her in anything else, so whatever cache she has with her fans is a mystery to me. Part of Laurel's boringness was on the writing, which made her a whiny, self-righteous bitch. I don't think the writers had a fully-realized concept of the character, other than she was supposed to be Ollie's OTP. But there is zero about the actress that grabs me. I watched (presumably) less experienced actresses Holland, Bett-Rickards and Lotz bring something to their characters.

My biggest problem with Arrow, and why I stopped watching (other than the CW having way too many DC shows), was that I didn't care about the new people. By having Diggle, Thea, and Lance all not be on much, I was bored out of my mind. Bringing back Katie Cassidy isn't going to entice me to come back as a regular viewer, as the character's death isn't why I lost interest.

*sigh*...they can bring back everyone else, but Tommy is still dead as a doornail (yes, I know, Colin's on NBC...but still, they managed to give other central characters multi-contracts and use them around the 'verse....)

I agree---the shift to the newbies was too much, too soon.

    • Yes, Stacy does this both for early DAYS & early GH. I have written some for her, for DAYS.
    • Hahahha I think sleeping with almost all of your daughters's boyfriends and husbands and getting pregnant... definitely gives Brooke the right to top 1 place. Long live the whore of Beverly hills.

    • CurlyQGrl has DVDs of some episodes, that they can sell, but that doesn't matter. What is helpful: they describe the scenes on the tapes, so you can read that as recaps without ordering anything. Doesn't really give storylines, though, which is what you asked for.  Here's the links anyhow. full menu https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/menu.html GH page https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/menu.html GH 1960s https://www.angelfire.com/tv/curlyqgrl/gh/eps/gheps1960s.htm
    • I would argue that Another World never played "everything" for laughs. Even when there were comedic scenes in some storylines there were other storylines that were not intended as comedy.  You give 1988 as the end point, and Mary was on the canvas from August 1986 to February 1989, so she must have overlapped with the despised laughs you are referring to at least half of the time she was there. I honestly can't recall any real comedy that Mary would have been part of. I don't think she was lighthearted about choosing between two husbands, MJ's prostitution, Kathleen's death, or even her son Scott dating her daughter Cheryl.  I would have said that the amount of comedy depended on the head writer and there was more comedy under Richard Culliton and Gary Tomlin in 1984 than subsequent headwriters. I guess there was an outbreak of more comedy when Cecile kidnapped Cass from his wedding in 1986, but in general the Sin Stalker wasn't presented as funny, Mitch's return wasn't funny, John's arrival wasn't funny, Reginald wasn't funny. The tone was serious even if the plots verged on the ludicrous. And maybe that's what you mean -- but I would make a distinction between intentional comedy and storylines I can't take seriously for other reasons.
    • I'm excited for us to get back to a full weeks worth of episodes and also us beginning to move into the episodes filmed once the show premiered. We're already starting to see changes in the lighting and the way certain characters are styled. Of course we know this week we have our first recast as well. After the big Eva reveal, I hope the show continues to move into a positive direction and that we see them starting to fix some of the things we've all had issues with.
    • It seems like they may have been going in one direction for Andre and then changed their mind. He had this player/bachelor thing going at first where he was messing with Dani, seemed to be feeling Eva, and then somehow smitten by bland Ashley of all people. I feel like Ashley was supposed to be the one that finally made him want to be with someone and settle. The way he talked her up in those earlier episodes was really confusing. The wonderful, amazing nurse Ashley and conveniently she's unattainable because she has a partner, but he can't stop thinking of her and takes these busted pics of her. It was a mess. However, it all seems to have been dropped. I honestly feel like Andre can go. That may be an unpopular opinion but I don't need his breathy final syllable to be content with BTG. It's always like "There's gotta be another wh-ahyy"
    • This is where McLaibey falls apart. It becomes clear that McTavish had not thought past Brent/Marion...so the energy drops and she starts throwing things at the wall (Blakes twins, Lonatrat.)   Fans HATED this funeral. Everyone is mad at everyone else, which is fine, the death of a beloved community figure would give people a reason to come together...(Quint and Nola could come together at least for  a bit to support each other, Nola and VAn could finally admit they kinda, sorta like each other) Its just an example of McTavish's mean writing.   I have a feeling they were going to make Dahlia Frank's kid but they chickened out. Making Tina a prostitute didn't help, they could have been lovers when they were young but felt society pressure to part. Marcus took over David's role (you can't have two young black men at that time...)   Get used to it...this will happen, the same storyline over and over until the end.
    • Does anyone happen to have a recording or any footage of Jennifer’s funeral?
    • It's such a shame that the conflict couldn't be resolved in a mature way between the two actors.. especially since Albee was a bigger asset for the show in terms of character and his popular will they/won't they pairing with Deborah Saxon. One of the things about Edge was that it was just as popular with male viewers as it was with women.  It's one of things I think the show forgot in the final year or two with the deemphasis on the male characters.
