Linda Cook Mann (ex-Egypt, LOVING, ex-Ann/Lucy, ATWT et al) passed away on April 12 in New York City. She was surrounded by her loved ones, including husband, Patrick, and sisters Karin and Shelley. The actress got her soap start on EDGE OF NIGHT in 1975 as Laurie Ann Karr. Her most memorable role was on LOVING, as Egypt Jones Masters, where she played opposite Randy Mantooth (ex-Alex). "It's hard for me to fathom that that bundle of energetic, always cheerful talent has been silenced," says Mantooth. "And, sad that it takes the passing of a friend to remind us all of the wonderful souls we've all been blessed to have in our lives. Linda was a joy to work with, and to be around." A memorial service will take place on April 28. "She is greatly missed already," says former co-star and friend Susan Keith (ex-Shana, LOVING et al).

We were talking about this in a few of the threads...I'm just sorry that I have never seen any of her work on Loving, which sounds like it was a real blast. I have seen scraps of her in every role but Egypt.

Random note - Linda was friends with Marlee Matlin, and she and Marlee wanted to work something out where Marlee could appear on LOVING. I don't think it ever happened though.

How sad. I loved her as Laurie on The Edge of Night. She was in some good storylines. May she rest in peace.

SO sad. I absolutely LOVED her on Loving as Egypt, both in the Ava/Alex/Egypt years and later with her hilarious partner in crime Minnie (Louise Stubbs). In fact, Egypt & Minnie were COMIC GOLD and one of my all-time favorite supercouples on Loving!

May she Rest In Peace .

How sad, may she rest in peace. When I was a kid watching Loving with my mom, Egypt and Minnie always lit up the screen. Egypt was a scene stealer, and the most colorful character of my foggy Loving memories.

Thanks for posting those, CarlD2. I always liked her so much. It's sad that she's gone but it sounds like she had a happy life and people who loved her. I had not realized she had breast cancer back in 1992.

Neither did I. I just realized that she has a completely different color and hairstyle in her ATWT run than she had on Loving, but I thought it was just a cosmetic change. She still looked great on ATWT. I'm sorry no other soaps picked her up. I didn't even realize she had one last appearance on the show years later.

I wonder if she even tried for other roles. I looked her up on IMDB and it says she was on ATWT until 2007, then nothing except for doing a voice in a video game in 2010. Her real estate company still shows her as an active broker, but there are other brokers there too so she wasn't handling the load alone.

I guess I'm wondering whether her cancer returned somewhere during that time and maintaining an ongoing soap role or even doing a play would have been difficult. If she's like too many people I've known, she may have gone from surgery and chemo and then that hopeful time when everybody hopes it's in remission and then back to illness.

She sounds like a wonderful person in that WLS interview, someone who doesn't take herself or anything else too seriously and who enjoys her life and the people in it. She sounds really tickled that she got to work with some of the actors she did.

Hey Carl, you should consider establishing a website for all these old articles you have. I think a lot of fans would appreciate having one place to access them.

I remember her as Egypt. I liked zany Egypt a lot. As much as I loved Ava, I was actually rooting for Egypt to have Alex for awhile.

RIP, Linda.
