I think this is one of those situations where they should have done what soaps used to do and give the actress more time before playing that type of scene. They should have just kept Maxie away from the funeral.

I actually like JL a lot--I've seen the Maxie scenes at Georgie's funeral with KS and she did very well, but at the same time--and I know this is kinda shallow--but for some reason, I look at JL and I just think she looks like she could actually be KW's daughter (although KS did sometimes look like a KW/JW cross to me, too), and for someone who hasn't been on for very long, I think she's getting Maxie's grief over Robin across very, very well.

Then again, what do I know? Until the OLTL people and Anna came back, my GH viewing was mostly confined to old scenes on YouTube laugh.png .

I forgot to mention but I liked how Molly and Alexis sat next to Mac. It only RC would make them happen where Guza and Wolfe have failed. I could see Mac, following the loss of Robin, realizes that life is too short and makes a strong push to start a relationship with Alexis, not backing down or letting anything get in his way. It would be fitting as Robin was one of the people that tried to put them together.

It took me YEARS to finally accept KS as Maxie but I like her now. I also like JL. Im in different to her plays her. I might lean towards JL since she's the one thats been handling the stuff and this story the last few months. I wouldnt want to see her leave in the middle of it. Either way, I think GH isnt losing either way bc both do the role well for what it is

In regards to the Kirsten Storms/ Jen Lilley debate:

Honestly, I think KS has the right "look" for the role, more so than JL. JL just looks very sweet/innocent, like she would be better suited to play a character like Hope Forrester (B & B ) . KS truly looks like the type of person that they've written Maxie to be. I buy her as a young, stylish fashionista. But she also has the acting capability to back up what the role truly is. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I find that KS does her strongest work in dramatic scenes. The work she did during the TMK storyline is some of the best I've seen on soaps in more than a decade. She also plays the bitchiness and the humor very well. JL, however, only truly does well with the comedy, IMO. I don't buy her as the conniving bitch who pushed drugs and faked a pregnancy. Kristen Storms just plays the layers brilliantly. And at the end of the day, Maxie is a very layered character. She's the ultimate selfish and bitchy character, with a heart of gold, who only realizes the error of her ways once she loses someone or something she loves. And KS plays that perfectly. JL falls flat, for me.

I think over time GH learned to write to Kristen's talents. Many hated her in her first years in the show. I wish GH could do that with Jen Lilley, but they seem to have no clue how to write any female character, much less the actress, unless you count turning Kate into Bensonhurst Sybil so Kelli Sullivan can give us a few guffaws.

It's funny you say that as that was the biggest thing against her when she started. It took her a LONG time to shed her young sweet teenybopper vibe as many only saw her as Belle or her Disney character. When they wrote her as a skanky bitch, she looked so out of place like some little girl trying desperately hard trying to hang with the adults

    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
    • My hunch is what you've described. JFP is likely back working on transitioning the show to a new studio and embracing new technology for its production model.
