I want to like ‘Days of our Lives,’ but the show makes this such a difficult task.

Thursday featured some wonderful scenes between Will / Justin / Adrienne/ Sonny. Granted, I wasn’t thrilled by heavy handed the tone was, but I like that attempt was made to show Will wants a normal family. In a show featuring secret bank accounts and sexy encounters due to malfunctioning heating systems, it was an emotion I could recognize and relate to. It was reminiscent of the wonderful scenes Maggie had the past couple years with the young people she would take under her wing. Justin and Adrienne’s support of their son lacked subtly, but there are parents out there like that. It helped to justify, for me, Will’s motivations.

Mind you, I’m not thrilled with the execution of Will’s descent to the darkside. I think the groundwork has been there since Will went to live with Stefano the previous summer. If anything broke Will’s spirit, it should have been learning the full extent of Sami’s duplicity in passing Will off as Austin’s son. Considering the current canvas, this is the story that should have been revisited as it would have given Austin and Carrie something more relevant without tweaking their occupations.

Speaking of Austin , the Austin – Abby scenes didn’t bother me as much as their scenes did before. Kate Mansi seems to be maturing a bit and I found her scenes with Muldoon tolerable despite the rather lame writing about doing homework with pen and paper. With that said, I do wish this storyline was playing out with someone not so closely tied to the canvas. Since TPTB are pandering to the contingent of the ‘Days’ audience who hate people who didn’t appear in an episode before 1999, I guess I should be happy the younger set is still around at all. I don’t see a way to write this which won’t come out looking bad for Abby. Has Austin had any scenes with the Dimeras yet other than Chad? Have they acknowledged Chad and Austin are stepbrothers? This would certainly enhance the fallout.

Why were Bo and Hope having a chat about Alice’s secret in the Horton living room? Doesn’t Jennifer live there now? I have this awful suspicion we are going to learn Alice’s secret tied to E.J. is going to involve some sort of donation from Zack. I don’t know how they are going to work it out timeline wise, but this is just my fear.

The Brady / Madison scenes at the spa were a bit out of the ordinary for the supercouple soap. I think the Nicole / Quinn scenes hinted at what the show plans on doing with Quinn and Nicole. I don’t think this is the best idea given the two characters connections on the canvas, but both have suffered because of the revamp in terms of ties to the canvas.

I thought the Carrie / Rafe scenes were bizarre due to the nature of Rafe and Carrie. Neither seem like the type to stray from their partners so I found the leering glances a bit premature. I think there is potential for drama between Rafe and Carrie, but I think approaching it from the sexual angle so soon will do more harm than good.

Jai Rodriguez’s character looked so much older than Sonny and Will. I must be dense, but I didn’t realize Will ran away from the table because Jai’s character asked him to meet up to listen to music. Then again, Salem is the home of Tad, who got upset because he was tagged in a picture with Sonny Kiriakis labeled ‘bro-mance.’ Did the writers not understand the meaning of that term?

I’m surprised they are scrapping two sets, Java and Cheatin’ Heart, in order to make it into one. Hasn’t the Cheatin’ Heart been around since the mid-1990s at least? I thought that was the bar where Sami got Austin drunk before she took him to bed? I’m sort of disappointed Adrienne’s role in Salem is being diminished as that was sort of her and Justin’s set since they don’t have a house. Maybe they can buy the townhouse from Marlena and John since they are broke. Then again, since Dr. Kayla is back in Salem serving beer and sage advice at the pub, I guess we don’t need Adrienne doing it at the Cheatin’ Heart even if Adrienne seems more natural in that role.

I thought Abe’s plans to revitalize Salem were smart given established ‘Days’ geography. Salem’s manufacturing district has a history in Salem with Anderson and its subsequent name changes. I also thought this laid the groundwork for

the arrival of Ian Buchanan’s character.

If I ran this show, I would not hesitate to go there with EJ and Will. They're hot.

Still and all, it's good stuff. I'm just sorry I had to pick DAYS back up after getting distracted by work in early October. I don't know how those storylines played out. Who is Mayor? What was the deal with John and Basic Black? Who did it? How did Rafe get fired?

I agree I went back to Hulu after reading this & something definitely there they have a chemistry! I'm just tired of Nicole & the EJ go round...Thanks for sharing because I've watched DAYS more off than on so I need a lot of help w/the history of the characters so I appreciate it.

I tuned DOOL out, pretty much for good I thought, the last time the writers moved in the direction of EJ and Sami. I've seen the Will and Marlena scenes (awesome) and some Will and Sami scenes. I watched a youtube clip of the scenes between Will, Sonny, Adrienne, Justin, and JR's character. WOW! Just WOW! The writers are so subtle on this one. Poor Will, tormented by a mother he can't trust his heart and feelings to. He watches the interaction between Sonny, Adrienne, and Justin with great admiration and some envy.

Sami's selfishness continues to steal bits and pieces of Will's life and she's CLUELESS all the way around. She hasn't listened to that kid for longer than ten minutes and even then to plead HER case. Everyone around Will sees what's happening with him... his mother remains too self-absorbed to notice that the son she claims to love needs her.

CM has such an expressive face for a young actor. He is really good at nonverbal expression. It's too bad the writers decided to make him chase his dark side (his comment to Sonny about being tired of being a good guy). He told Marlena he was afraid he would behave like his mother if he ever found someone he could trust. He needs to beat back his "Sami" DNA and fight that urge! He's a compelling character, IMO, without all of the other stuff.

Are Will and Sonny going to be a couple?

I hope there are no plans for Sonny and Will. I love their friendship. If they go that route, I hope it's over time - with Sonny thinking of himself as Will's best bud and then Will starts dating and Sonny realizes he has deeper feelings for Will. BnB has be burned out on the older man - younger lover formula, but I still liked the interaction between Will and Matteo (if JR would be willing to stick around for the storyline). I'd LOVE To see Matteo rip EJ in half for what he's doing to Will, taking advantage of Will's pain... There are so many directions the writers COULD go with this storyline.

OH! And becomes I'm such a cornball, I'd LOVE for Will and Matteo's song to be JR's "Broken"... especially if Will leaves Matteo for Sonny.

EJ is mostly bark, but I can't see Jai Rodriguez ripping into anyone.

I'd rather they keep Will out of romantic relationships. CM's performance seems very asexual to me, similar to Ali Sweeney. He really is the new Sami, complete with blaming his mother for his failings, and constant pouting, screaming, and tantrums. They'd be better off just focusing on his mental problems and not a love life which censors will never let them show.

I think it's kind of entertaining. It's like when a poodle walks by a big dog and starts barking.... Jennifer being the poodle.

Is Will gay then? Because when he said he was busy the other day so couldn't meet up with the othern gay guy, I guessed he was in the closet. And if he does end up coming out, I personally can't see Days leaving Will and Sonny as just friends and I wouldn't want them to either (bearing in mind this is a viewer who doesn't know the histories lol)

I have to say, there is some very ropey acting in Days. I do'nt know if it's because the episodes are longer than UK soaps so perhaps the actors have less time to learn their lines due to small casts but some of them have this terrible way of looking like they've forgotten their lines half way through talking and go silent for a second.

I can't help but love the show though and I've always wanted to watch it regularly ever since I saw it in Barbados. I've noticed there are some very good actors in it too. Sami is my favourite character by a thousand miles, I just think the actress is beautiful and really makes the character come to life. Abi's very good I thought, as is the guy playing Sonny.

Will's not very good but I'll forgive him thanks to his good looks

I heard a year or so ago that Days was on the verge of being axed? Is that unlikely now? I don't want to get addicted and then have it ripped away!
