B&B - Storm committing suicide to give Katie a heart, complete with writing that said it was noble and wonderful, and Katie using her heart failure to get her niece's boyfriend. Culminating in a pretentious Emmy bait scene of Katie swimming with Storm as he wore Joker makeup.

B&B - Beth Logan being brought back with Alzheimers. The actress was so terrible and the story was so bad, she vanished, only to return again long enough to be drowned by Stephanie.

Let me put it this way:

• ATWT--Doc Reese, Cabot saga, the Z twins, Zoe the model, Billy Warlock's character
  
• B&B--Katie's undersea nightmare, Amber/April, Beth drowns, Brooke's rape, Betty White dies on the beach
  
• Days--Tinda Lau, Brady/DiMera vendetta, 2001 Island story, Melaswen, Alex North
  
• GL-- Maryanne Carruthers, anything in 2008, Gus/Harley/Dylan/Natalia, Alan vs. Jonathan, San Cristobel
  
• Y&R-- Out of the Ashes, Adam's reign of terror, Pheila, Sarah/Ryder/Daisy, Cassie's death

I admit, I did tune in to watch some of it, but I felt it crossed the line as well--the show was so rape obsessed at the time anyway (and no real consequences--emotional anyway were dealt with), and then to involve all these other issues (homosexuality, transgenderism, hermaphrodites, incest, murder)... ugh.

GL - One word: Lonatrat

GL - Gilly falls in love with Griffin, who is her father. This was a sick, offensive, disgusting, tawdry storyline, and the one story I could never forgive Megan McTavish for.

GL - Griffin, a civil rights leader, has himself shot for publicity purposes. Wow!

One part which the show tried to make fun and a joke that I couldnt get behind was when Julian had his penis cut off. I cant even remember how that happened but you then had scenes like Rebecca standing over him and his disembered junk lamenting about what a tragedy it is for womankind. Then Vincent had a drunk and high Eve reattach it backwards and this was all played up for laughs but I didnt find it funny

It's hard to really criticize Passions, especially at that point, for trying to be as outrageous as possible, as that seemed to be their purpose--but I'm completely with you. I also think it tied into the weird issues with sexuality that JER had, but I guess that's a diff subject.

The story I was always most put off by was the stuff with Luis and Fancy being raped, Fancy over and over.

Wasn't that connected to the same story though? I guess I disliked nearly everything to do with that character.

I would also include for ATWT, Holden's brain damage and Holden taking Aaron from Iva. The former had a lot of bad long-term consequences in terms of Holden's characterization, and the latter made Holden look like a huge a$$ (IMO) and then a deadbeat father.

Its funny I simply thought of more recent ones for both ATWT and GL went a lot of crap went on before hand. 1996 was a HORRENDOUS year for both shows yet somehow amazingly they actually recovered from it...although perhaps not fully...

I started watching in the summer of 1993.

5) Eric Brady tries to avenge Nicole's porn past. I don't know if it was the writing, Jensen Ackles or a combination of both, but it was an incredibly contrived and unconvincing performance. I don't know if I want to remember more of it if or not.

4) Alex North. I don't remember much of it. I think I watched very little because of how bad I could see it getting. The only highlight was the first time we see North, with a smart scene of Marlena in a hospital bed surrounded by all three Romans.

3) Garden of Eden with Greta & Austin. I remember the computer graphics being cheap and ugly, even by low budget standards. That's to say nothing of the story itself.

2) Salem Serial Killer - I loved the start the story got off to. Really. Roman's death, Cassie's. Then it went off the rails into oblivion. They wasted nearly two years on this garbage.

1) Santo & Colleen - This was not only bad and slapped you in the face with a) how hard it pushed Sami and E.J. the way it handled the vets and c) history being destroyed just to push Sami and E.J.
