Thanks Toups for posting the ratings for us every week. I have to say it's sad what has happened to Y&R. I used to love this show, I would rush to my tv everyday to watch it but now at 12:30 I find myself watching one of the court shows or some game show.

Happy that OLTL is doing so well.

Here's a jams hoping to ALL soaps going UP. With my AMC getting the biggest gain....YEP... Even with the Zen bus killing things left, right and center. Go UP my baby GO UP!!!!!! Can't believe some are still wishing for soaps to drop!?!?! *jams waves finger* Have we not learned by now that a soap dropping in the ratings will more likely lead to CANCELLATION rather than dramatic changes and improvements. I've got the message, but I don't want to give out lessons. So by all means ...wish for all soaps to hit the bottom of the ocean if it so floats your boat!

But here is a to a bigger hope that I will not be given a lesson every week on the ins and outs of ratings. *yawn* *tiring* Even if I do find some of it interesting!! BUT more so I don't come here to feel like I have a pushy teacher standing over my shoulder barking at me. Gives me flashbacks to parochial school and Sister Leona. Oh.. NO fun in that.

It may be hard to believe ...but some don't really care who measures what and using what yardstick. SOME think that's some dumb sh!t. EVEN if you're in the target demo age.. oh wait, but I'm not the correct sex. Hmm count that as one reason >I< don't care! Some just want to see the ratings and count us all as viewers. Terribly SHOCKING I KNOW.

ETA : Well sorta got one of my wishes .....LOL......AMC got the biggest gain!!! In many categories ...... including the one that matters most TO >ME<.

Despite my feelings regarding the PP deal, I must admit that this ratings situation really sucks for OLTL fans (and I feel sorry for them): the impressive ratings surge just came too late to keep it on television. (Had OLTL done this well prior to April 14, I do not believe that it would have been cancelled this year.) Ironically, what has happened to OLTL is the exact opposite of what often happens with DOOL: that soap's ratings improve just before renewal time, only to sag during all other times. (DOOL's very lucky history in this regard--combined with the fact NBC tolerates lower ratings than other networks--is why I believe DOOL will still be on television past September 2013.)

Despite wishful thinking on the part of OLTL fans, these numbers are not enough for ABC to be able to change its mind and put it back on the air. (It should be noted that only a relatively small minority of OLTL fans ever proposed this fantasy; the majority of fans realize that OLTL will forever be gone from ABC.) The PP deal, other contracts, and corporate ego/politics all prevent this from ever happening. In the event that Chew or Revolution fails miserably, what will happen is that GH's life on ABC will be extended for another year (provided that ABC doesn't yet have another talk show in the wings). (The fact that there is a reasonable likelihood that either Chew or Revolution will fail miserably is the major reason why I am not convinced GH is a goner come September 2012.)

No one cares. No one has cared in a while it seems. If they did then Hogan Sheffer would be gone. MAB would be long gone.

This show is written solely as a charity for out of work soap actors on other networks and to push Sheffer's special brand of misogyny and disease.

I have zero idea why any decisions are made on this show. The most recent that I don't get was having Adam go out of his way to persecute Sharon. I don't like Shadam, I don't care about either of them, but they were popular, and I would imagine some viewers were watching solely for them. Now those viewers have no reason to care.

I think OLTL was going no matter what. ABC didn't care about the show. They want dirt cheap programming and they likely want out of daytime altogether.

How impressive is it really?

OLTL was #1 alone in 18-34 which is HUGE as that is the most prized demo of all.

But now that Toups posted the full numbers we see GH crashed from pre-emptions last week.

And I can't help but noting that despite all of OLTL's viewer gains since July, it has only managed to beat GH twice in the 18-49 because our show has not managed to spike the demos up by anywhere near same percentages.

In contrast, when GH was soaring last year to 3 million viewers, its demos soared to 1 million. GH this February soared its demos to high 800,000. OLTL just cannot come anywhere near those type of spikes.

Kills me to say it but these numbers only back up Frons picking GH over OLTL.

As for ABC replacing The Chew with OLTL sorry I believe that is very unrealistic. ABC has sunk a fortune into promoting The Chew and will be doing cross-promotions with The View. They are going to ride out the opening poor numbers and hope like the View, they can win over fans slowly.

PP is OLTL's only hope.

I don't think ABC will change its mind about OLTL, but I disagree with you that OLTL's ratings are not impressive. GH's Tuesday ratings didn't count last week, so the pre-emptions didn't impact its numbers anymore than OLTL's.

And OLTL's growth year-to-year has been very impressive lately. Year-to-year numbers are very important to networks, and OLTL is the only soap showing any strength there.

What's amazing here is oltl didn't crash it held up all august with great numbers. Number 1 in 18 34 is big. Gh crashing and burning and being beat 19 weeks in viewership by it is terrible. Also gh is so much more expensive. Anyways oltl is just hot and hope it lands on cable
