Natalie exists a) to prop John b ) to prop Jessica. She is meaningless otherwise.

I think she can, but I don't think she is allowed to. The writing was on the wall when she and Jared were backburnered.

I think the show really likes Natalie, at least RC does, but they're sometimes lazy, sometimes senseless, and sometimes mandated to by the network. It's why I will welcome an at least partly-new writing staff at Prospect Park.

Speaking of which, Melissa Archer has been playing Natalie for just a little over 10 YEARS. Thats quite remarkable and makes her a vet in her own right. Ive always loved her and the character since 2001 but honestly didn think she'd have this much staying power. Thats quite an impressive run

The first Irene Manning died in the mid 90s, so no this is not her

Irene Manning died in the 70's. I remember very well when Tina Clayton first walked into Llanfair. It was because her mother Irene had passed on.

Anymore? When were they ever "taken seriously"? Maybe up until the 70's?

LOL! Seriously. They are only "serious" to the fans.

He meant the first actress Monty. :)

Yeah, it really is amazing how time flies. The fact that Cristian and Rex are still around as well. Some folks just hit the lottery, I feel like any number of characters who breezed in and out of Llanview could have had that same manufactured longevity had they been *chosen ones*.

Yep, misread that one.

They meant the actress

Didn't misread this. I was responding to Toups comment about how they (the soaps) were never really taken seriously.

Screw the gratuitous GUIDING LIGHT reference. That isn't how I want(ed) my show to be remembered at all.

Besides, Jack couldn't have read about Dolly, b/c Josh and Reva made sure her clone was buried w/ no one ever knowing of her existence.

Relax it was just a small reference. GL adn OLTL dont even exist in the same universe. Josh and Reva hiding the info has no bearing on this small inside joke. Now had this happened on a P&G soap like ATWT where they did have character crossovers, that would be a different story

It immediately reminded me of Tad and Joey's reference to Liza living in Springfield during AMC's 25th anniversary week. Just a little wink to the fans.

I can't wait to see how Tina reacts to the news that Irene never died of cancer
