I think a lot of people could have gotten past the age issue if the writing for Diane hadn't made her seem superflous.

Yep.

they have a certain right to be. Unlike

Y&R fans (like most) are purists.

Pretty much.

But not so much it would keep them from embracing any change.

It's all a matter of why & how the changes occur that's the real issue.

And on a gut level, many fans will balk at any mother's death, unless she's an ax murderer, in the process of threatening a child.

Unfortunately with Y&R's current insane agenda driven writing & certain entitled psycho fanbases.

Personally, I hope a lot of people see the same thing I do---Y&R desperately needs more characters who are willing to take on the GC "establishment" and call them on their crap who aren't Satan themselves. This town is filled with stuffy prisses who are obsessed with Victor and/or Sharon.

Definitely.

But again it won't happen due to agendas & entitled fanbases.

I do find Maura's dismissal sad---it's a case of backstage politics winning over substance.

It's really a blessing for Maura.

She's free from a debacle of a show that wouldn't utilize her talents & is now available for another show that will.

I still believe Hamner's going to pull a fast one and say Patty 1) has been lurking around GC again; and 2) she offed Diane b/c she believed this would make Jack happy.

or based on Maria's history, Diane was Patty, having undergone more plastic surgery

I'd be okay with that. I don't want Diane dead.

I hate the idea of Diane dead but please no more back from the dead stories for MAB and no more canelike retcons. Y&R is turning into the sci fi

hour

Wouldn't be surprised. Actually, I would welcome Diane not being dead. But the way things are on this show, nothing really matters or makes a difference.

Sigh... Ten years ago, stuff like this would have been UNTHINKABLE.

My speculation, based on MAB saying Nikki would be back in a front burner story:

Adam was speaking to Patty on the phone, he had her undergo plastic surgery to look exactly like Nikki and had the real Nikki kidnapped from her rehab group. The plan was to have Diane fake her death and the fake "Nikki" implicate Victor. But Patti couldn't contain herself seeing Diane and Jack in the window so she followed Jack to the park and killed Diane for real. So when Nikki does return she will be fake Nikki and eventually found guilty for Diane's murder, but it will really be Patty.
