Members Angela
I don't dislike Jamey like most here but there is no executive producer or head writer in place, so how would anybody know?
Members Khan
At the risk of starting another my-soap-was-worse-off-than-yours debate, I must disagree. OLTL, for all its many faults, still has much going for it. It just needs is to excise all the silly, campy [!@#$%^&*] and get back to basics. Members DRW50
They certainly have some good actors, but the core of the show is rotten. You have the great love of Rex and the woman he sold to the highest bidder, who is now in the worst dual role ever on OLTL. You have a love story for a boy who bullied someone, helped kill their mother, showed very little remorse, and has since gone on to frame someone else for murder and try to burn down a building. You have a love story for a rapist and the woman he assaulted when she thought she was 15 years old. You have a pointless, stalled out murder "mystery" with Todd that takes precedence over any relationships he's had on the show. You have a pointless stalled out paternity saga with John and Natalie that involves psychotic breakdown #4234, and a leading man who can barely make eye contact with his supposed love. You have a rushed reunion with Viki and a man who not all that long ago had her close friend kidnapped by a wife-beater and a rapist. You have a laundry list of underdeveloped and stupid stories full of half-characters (Blair/Tomas, Destiny's pregnancy, Matthew's coma, Rick the comic relief porn producer). Other than Tina and Cord, who aren't staying around, the show is pretty much hollowed out, mostly because beyond camp and in-jokes and one or two days of payoffs, there isn't anything to tell, no characters to present, no theme, no pacing, no real romance, no morality. It could get better with PP, but as long as they have the same headwriter and producer, I don't really expect it.
Members Eric83
Yes. GL was so boring at the end, at least OLTL is entertaining. It just needs to dial it down a bit on the rape stuff and ruining characters to make us worship others.
Members Dana
The way things are (not) going with OLTL and AMC, it makes me wonder what's going to happen to GH when it likely gets canceled next year. I would have expected PP to pick it up, but they don't seem to have the money for OLTL and AMC right now.
Members DRW50
I think GH is just going to go. I have my doubts that most of the actors would want to move to PP, and the show is a dessicated corpse.
Members marceline
I disregard anything Jamey says about AMC. I don't care that he was "right" about the move, after all he did campaigning for the show's failure I'll never believe he cares about the show. Members JaneAusten
If that were the case he would have been he first one they signed. And explain to me how VI could have been heavily factored in in stories when they don't have an EP or HW yet. Are those magical stories coming out of vaporware. Its amazing how people continue to spread the BS about the actors when we all know from the WSJ article PP doesn't have the capital yet. or union agreements close to signing yet. Members John
I think its more of everyone we ask wont do it now, so we have to put AMC on Pause & Go Back to the drawing Board. Their first Business with AMC should be getting an EP & HW that understand the show than build a road map of where to go then go after cast
Members marceline
This is the second time we've seen PP blame an actor for their own business failings and the soap press just falls in line. It's ABC all over again. Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.
Members ER Tosh
And even better He tweeted this on VI's birthday.
Members JaneAusten
I am waiting for the hammer to come down on OLTL because Roger or Trevor won't sign next.
Members JaneAusten
What a nice b-day gift for VI getting outraged soap fans sending angry tweets to him
Members John
No One is blamming actors. IMHO PP sees that AMC has no commitment and they need to rethink AMC Stratergy. I would get an EP/HW first. Those people could help get more cast to sign on.
Members Angela
On Twitter, when confronted on the lack of a Head Writer and Executive Producer to build stories in the first place, Jamey responded that Broderick and Nixon "worked on story projections for the show." I don't dislike Jamey, but still I have to give that a big whatever. Barely anybody signed on cast-wise, and a writer that is not signed on to write the show worked on enough of a projection to cripple the show on one actors back? Eh. I agree. They also don't have the financial backing to do both now. OLTL was ahead of AMC for whatever reason. marceline brought up several viable potential reasons including location. I'm also not going to blame Prospect Park for unnamed sources blaming actors. The first business should be getting that agreement with AFTRA. OLTL is not going to be back if they don't do that. Cady McClain on Facebook: "Oh boy. Been a little busy with writing projects. Just heard the news about AMC. I'm so sorry for the fans, the show- everyone. But it does make sense. There is a lot to organize with moving one show into a new format, studio, structure ... and AMC did have a pretty "star studded" overhead (myself NOT included, haha.) Perhaps someday it will be resurrected, but as for now, it looks like there will only be ONE life moving forward. Although I was not approached by Prospect Park, I still wish them well and mourn with you all. A sad moment indeed."
