This is not a government supported or funded entity like PBS or the BBC or Canadian Network is where the government actually supports the running of these networks. If they are out looking for investors for the production of these shows, obviously the government funding does not include that. And it kind of makes sense since they are looking to produce more content. I dont see the US government being an unlimited money train for PP any more than I expect them to give money to NBC to produce their shows.

Only the BBC is solely government funded and it's actually funded through television license fees rather than government budget. PBS raises 60% of its revenue from pledge drives and private donations. The Canadian CBC receives partial funding from the federal government (though the current government hates the CBC and will do everything to destroy it) and makes up the rest of its operating budget through advertising.

Prospect Park has been given a grant, like many other young companies, in hopes that it will succeed and provide jobs. The American government is not supporting the venture. I do not believe the venture has the funds required to survive. Furthermore, the longer it takes the network to get OLTL and/or AMC online, the likelihood increases that neither program will survive.

Soap operas are an addiction, the AMC audience has broken their addiction since September 23, it's very likely that neither show will make it online, that's my instinct.

I love OLTL and really want it to continue, but I'm starting to not even care anymore.

I agree. I find it really hard to quit shows I've been watching since I was a teen, but if the networks want to break these addictions for me, I'm ok with that at this point. If I saw any of these shows for the first time at this stage in my life, I would not be a viewer, for so many reasons.

Isn't that why they allowed writers to go FiCore during the strike was that they knew if the soaps went away for even a few weeks they would lose a lot of the audience?

I can;t remember but does anyone know how many viewers they lost with the OJ trial. They always seem to reference that as some barometer

No they were worried they would lose their jobs. In the past scabs wrote as well as producers

That makes me wonder just how much PP signed these actors for. Maybe they came cheaper than we think.

From what's been said the actor's don't get paid unless this actually happens, so it's a win win thing for PP

I'm not sure if these are going to have a lot of international sales anyway.

Soaps are still very popular abroad and I think there is tons of money to be made for PP from AMC & OLTL.

It was announced this week that B&B will be pulled off the air in Denmark and Norway after 14+ years on the air.

I don't think PP (or anyone else) should expect to be able to tap into the international tv market. I hope they however realize the potential for international online viewers and makes their site accessible for the international viewers.

On most soaps I think they did have scabs. a couple of HW stuck with the shows like on Y&R but most of the scriptwriters were non union writers

http://abc.soapsindepth.com/2011/11/oltl-prospect-park-update.html

At the ONE LIFE TO LIVE press junket yesterday, all of the actors were emotional about the soap's run coming to an end on ABC. And while some were excited about being part of the show's transition to The Online Network, we unfortunately didn't learn about any new additions to the Prospect Park family.

While expanding Vimal and Rama's family with Neela would seem to indicate setting them up to continue on-line, is actually planning to continue her career in both Bollywood and Hollywood. "I want to do both," she says, "but it's really hard."

Terri Conn (Aubrey) also has not signed on the dotted line, and plans to go to Los Angeles for pilot season, but would never say never. "I've left the door open," she reveals.

Ilene Kristen (Roxy) is excited for the prospect of OLTL and other programming flourishing on-line, and still hopes to be a part of it. "I certainly hope so," she enthuses. "Who's gonna get rid of Roxy? Come on!"

Mark Lawson (Brody) is also one of the actors who is intrigued, but not yet signed on. "I am open to discussion," he admits. "And I hope the best for the show, whatever happens."

Vets Hillary B. Smith (Nora) and Robert S. Woods (Bo) remained mum on their own personal plans for their future with OLTL, saying only: "I think we've considered it," confides Smith. "Shall we just leave it at that? We can't really discuss it."

If PP ever gets around to focusing on AMC it will probably be in the spring, at which point GH will likely be canceled and PP will drop AMC like a hot potato to focus on GH.

AMC has more to work with trust me. GH is in worse shape than AMC ever was

If AMC were to air in the spring that would be far too late. It'd be nearly 9 months off the air. Viewers will have new habits.

That's the problem for this venture, it'd be about creating a new habit out of nothing and I don't have any faith that this can possibly be achieved because viewers, even longtime soap fans, are fickle.

AMC would be off 6 months at that point. I dont get it, It will continue. Its better to wait 6 or 7 months to get it back than never see it again
