So we got some news today but none if makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. While I am ecstatic for OLTL signing more people its just disheartening to me that there were no major announcements for AMC. I keep saying I need to stay away from this thread but I am here everyday like a big old loser LOL. Maybe tomorrow.............

At this point, they might as well have combined the soaps, incorporating a few AMC characters into OLTL. Im not too optimistic about AMC coming back considering they barely have anyone signed at this point whereas OLTL seems to be moresolid. I wonder if they will cancel plans for an online AMC and give those who signed the option to go onto OLTL instead

This may not have been a bad idea. However, the downside to this is that those idiotic AMC vs. OLTL fan wars would heat up all over again. Furthermore, the "objective" soap press would suffer because there would be one less soap to cover.

Well, a logical person would be able to conclude this. However, I can't recall ever previously reading one article written by a member of the soap press which failed to state (or suggest) that it was a forgone conclusion that both Nixon soaps would be ready the moment OLTL ended on ABC.

Yes that's true, but I haven't counted much of the soap press' reports on this as official wink.png

I still think PP realizes it would be in their best interest to launch *two* shows, since this is a brand new model and online "network". If the goal is to eventually have more programming, I dunno, it just feels like it makes more sense to me to do it that way.

I hope not! I gave up on OLTL years ago and while I'm anxiously awaiting the return of AMC in some form, I wouldn't tune in to OLTL to see AMC characters on it.

The longer it takes for the unions to sign off, the less chance there is for either show to be ready by January. I suspect it will be the spring before they relaunch.

I'm still hopeful that PP will get Susan Lucci to sign on, followed by a slew of other AMC actors, hire Lorraine Broderick as headwriter and find a network to air both shows.

I keep coming back for news, too. I just can't stop feeling optimistic that we'll get more AMC people once PP stops focusing on OLTL.

I'm still wondering about those other shows PP said they wanted to produce. At this point I'd just as soon they take the AMC actors and funnel them to a new show. Of course I've always wanted a new soap. Honestly, I'm to the point where I don't care if they launch or not. If they do, fine. If not, so be it.

But, yeah, I think most people have figured out that a January launch for OLTL isn't happening either.

Jamey at DC actually wrote something I agree with for a change

http://daytimeconfidential.zap2it.com/2011/11/03/how-prospect-park-can-salvage-their-plans-to-take-soaps-online

The amazing part is how many people in the comments are so fixated on the fact that these shows remain exactly the same. Do folks not get that part of why these shows are dying is lack of innovation, evolution, change?

I am all for keeping the shows an hour with commercials or the 35 minutes without commercials. If they charge a nominal fee initially for the 35 minutes without commercials I would be fine with that. Also, it seems like we'll be getting a lot of theories over the next few days and hopefully some sort of confirmed information.

I love these soaps, I really do. I'm even going to NYC in 2 weeks to stand outside the OLTL studio and greet the actors as they tape the final network television daytime drama. I'd love for these shows to continue. But, this PP thing sounds less and less likely. They don't even have studio space yet! Yes, they've signed actors to contracts but at least one actor has already said that in reading the fine print, they will never get paid unless this thing happens. I saw the pretty PowerPoint slides by PP and how they feel that this project will be profitable if 1/10th of the people who watched on ABC watch online. The longer this project takes, the less likely 250,000 people would watch these shows online. Again, I love these shows, but businesss wise this PP deal just isn't feasible financially. I respect the effort by PP, but they need alot more money before this will happen.

I disagree with the idea of running telenovela style arcs then a vacation for 13 weeks then back on. The thing about habits is they must be habitual lest the habit be broken. Heck, Glee was off for three weeks and I forgot completely it had returned this week til I read a review of the episode online. Fifteen minutes is also too short. Thirty I could see. One of the problems with these original online amateur productions the soap blogs call soaps is that each episode is 20 seconds long. It's not worth letting the video buffer for a six minute episode, and 15 is not much better. Plus what about commercials?

The guest star idea failed when DALLAS tried it all those years ago. No one is going to tune in because Shannon IWasFamousOnce is putting in a guest appearance.

It should be 30 minute episodes, maybe airing M/W/Fr. That's frequent enough to form a habit, and long enough to make the habit worth picking up.

    • Goulet also had an odd way of speaking - very clipped and brisk, like she had just gotten out of a '40s film. She sounded out of breath. She had this on all her soaps. She was a better actress than Tolan and did well enough with Mary's grief over her marriage in her final week or two in the part but had no real spark.  I agree they may have found a better Mary if they had tried harder. For some reason the recasting for the Ryan kids was never what it should have been. I don't know what was going on with Barbie Siobhan. Maybe that was ABC.
    • The finale peaked at 31.1 rating when Katherine hit Bobby with her car.
    • Exactly. And it's not like Stephanie didn't live a life when Hennig played her.  There are so many stories and relationships you can mine from her past.  And we just got......a book and sex with Alex or the random Bobby backstory which no one needed  I trust new writing can get the character back on track.  Like I said, I do think Abigail Klein has charisma.
    • Today (Thurs May 15) eppy not on paramount *menu* but it's on cbs.com. If you take the cbs episode URL and substituted paramountplus for cbs in the same URL, you get the episode on pplus https://www.cbs.com/shows/video/Huj7bAYV8H6T038u9cXam3bk6QXNkM2Y/ https://www.paramountplus.com/shows/video/Huj7bAYV8H6T038u9cXam3bk6QXNkM2Y/
    • Really good episode today. Even the characters who usually annoy me, like Chase and Brook Lynn, got some sweet scenes. I also appreciate that they're finally giving Lucky more to do, letting him in on Ric & Ava's blackmail scheme. And those Liz and Lucas scenes were fantastic;  Van Hansis has been bringing such playfulness to the role of Lucas, he brings out the best in scene partners like Laura Wright and Becky Herbst. It was also nice to get Liz's perspective on why her romantic rapprochment with Lucky is moving so slow; it makes perfect sense that she thinks he's not really capable of settling down, even if he wants to be with her.
    • I thought Keith did great as well. His scene with Colby was what sold me. He displayed the emotions that a man who knows he's made a mistake and wants to rectify should have. Its funny how Maurice has been given passes in his acting that other actors have not. What Keith has shown me is that he can atleast keep up with the ladies in his story instead of them acting circles around him when Maurice was playing the role.
    • Also Murder, She Wrote season 3 finale was the week before.
    • When Kat was in Ted's hotel room and he wasn't there, she started to write a note to leave for him, and then thought Why? and texted him instead.  Love that.
