Members skiman12082004
So we got some news today but none if makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. While I am ecstatic for OLTL signing more people its just disheartening to me that there were no major announcements for AMC. I keep saying I need to stay away from this thread but I am here everyday like a big old loser LOL. Maybe tomorrow.............
Members Cheap21
At this point, they might as well have combined the soaps, incorporating a few AMC characters into OLTL. Im not too optimistic about AMC coming back considering they barely have anyone signed at this point whereas OLTL seems to be moresolid. I wonder if they will cancel plans for an online AMC and give those who signed the option to go onto OLTL instead
Members Max
This may not have been a bad idea. However, the downside to this is that those idiotic AMC vs. OLTL fan wars would heat up all over again. Furthermore, the "objective" soap press would suffer because there would be one less soap to cover. Well, a logical person would be able to conclude this. However, I can't recall ever previously reading one article written by a member of the soap press which failed to state (or suggest) that it was a forgone conclusion that both Nixon soaps would be ready the moment OLTL ended on ABC. Members EricMontreal22
Yes that's true, but I haven't counted much of the soap press' reports on this as official I still think PP realizes it would be in their best interest to launch *two* shows, since this is a brand new model and online "network". If the goal is to eventually have more programming, I dunno, it just feels like it makes more sense to me to do it that way.
Members Steve
I hope not! I gave up on OLTL years ago and while I'm anxiously awaiting the return of AMC in some form, I wouldn't tune in to OLTL to see AMC characters on it. The longer it takes for the unions to sign off, the less chance there is for either show to be ready by January. I suspect it will be the spring before they relaunch. I'm still hopeful that PP will get Susan Lucci to sign on, followed by a slew of other AMC actors, hire Lorraine Broderick as headwriter and find a network to air both shows. I keep coming back for news, too. I just can't stop feeling optimistic that we'll get more AMC people once PP stops focusing on OLTL.
Members marceline
I'm still wondering about those other shows PP said they wanted to produce. At this point I'd just as soon they take the AMC actors and funnel them to a new show. Of course I've always wanted a new soap. Honestly, I'm to the point where I don't care if they launch or not. If they do, fine. If not, so be it. But, yeah, I think most people have figured out that a January launch for OLTL isn't happening either.
Members JaneAusten
Jamey at DC actually wrote something I agree with for a change http://daytimeconfidential.zap2it.com/2011/11/03/how-prospect-park-can-salvage-their-plans-to-take-soaps-online The amazing part is how many people in the comments are so fixated on the fact that these shows remain exactly the same. Do folks not get that part of why these shows are dying is lack of innovation, evolution, change?

Members Jonathan
So basically he wants 15 minutes of content? That's too short for me. Even the B&B which is a half hour show is about 22 minutes without commercials. The hour long soaps have about 36 minutes of content.
Members DRW50
I'd take 15 minute shows if there were 3-4 different soaps. Or a half-dozen. I love the 15 minute format, but it's impossible to adjust OLTL to that at the moment. AMC, perhaps, but I'm not sure.
Members skiman12082004
I am all for keeping the shows an hour with commercials or the 35 minutes without commercials. If they charge a nominal fee initially for the 35 minutes without commercials I would be fine with that. Also, it seems like we'll be getting a lot of theories over the next few days and hopefully some sort of confirmed information.
Members EastMA2
I love these soaps, I really do. I'm even going to NYC in 2 weeks to stand outside the OLTL studio and greet the actors as they tape the final network television daytime drama. I'd love for these shows to continue. But, this PP thing sounds less and less likely. They don't even have studio space yet! Yes, they've signed actors to contracts but at least one actor has already said that in reading the fine print, they will never get paid unless this thing happens. I saw the pretty PowerPoint slides by PP and how they feel that this project will be profitable if 1/10th of the people who watched on ABC watch online. The longer this project takes, the less likely 250,000 people would watch these shows online. Again, I love these shows, but businesss wise this PP deal just isn't feasible financially. I respect the effort by PP, but they need alot more money before this will happen.
Members quartermainefan
I disagree with the idea of running telenovela style arcs then a vacation for 13 weeks then back on. The thing about habits is they must be habitual lest the habit be broken. Heck, Glee was off for three weeks and I forgot completely it had returned this week til I read a review of the episode online. Fifteen minutes is also too short. Thirty I could see. One of the problems with these original online amateur productions the soap blogs call soaps is that each episode is 20 seconds long. It's not worth letting the video buffer for a six minute episode, and 15 is not much better. Plus what about commercials? The guest star idea failed when DALLAS tried it all those years ago. No one is going to tune in because Shannon IWasFamousOnce is putting in a guest appearance. It should be 30 minute episodes, maybe airing M/W/Fr. That's frequent enough to form a habit, and long enough to make the habit worth picking up.
Members marceline
I thought they had studio space for OLTL. Damn. I was hoping the actors got signing bonuses or some other form of cash upfront.
