Inherent problem with fans: any cast member who leaves a show they brand as being “fired”. Incorrect terminology, especially when the employee initiated their own exit. Fans want to go to thee most negative outcome and report on it to incite reaction from their supporters.

I'm not saying that any "storyline dictated exit" is not being fired. The orginal exit of Bobbie Eakes or Don Diamont's departure form Y&R in 2006 where classic examples of actors being fired on soaps. The given examples in this topic do not qualify for it, though, at least in my opinion.

Whether actors are literally “fired” (not offered a new contract, or had a contract terminated) it just boggles my mind why some fans don’t view being hired on soaps as an employment arrangement like any other. It’s like show runners are the devil for their right to hire and fire at will. I just personally don’t understand that mentality that Bell or whoever has no right to let staff go when he decides it’s their time and the character has had their run. It’s his show, he can do what he likes. And we don’t need to make a soap opera out of an employment arrangement being ceased. JMO.

I agree with you 100%. At the end of the day, Brad is running a business and has the right to hire or fire as he wishes. Fans, however, will spin exits in the most negative way to suit their own narrative - including that KKL dictates who needs to go. These fans are completely deranged; KKL is the nicest person, and they do not know her. Fans seem to think production need to provide them with explanations on employment matters - warped thinking.

I think we are slowly turning into masochists, LOL. 2002 was veeery strong compared to 2003... It felt like the entire show followed Taylor to the grave when she died at the end of 2002. Something just shifts... and then we get Macy's return which was very sloppy in my opinion. Aaaaaand then we get into the really disgusting incest stuff with Ridge in love with Bridget... and that's when I start calling for SOS.

That's one of the most insane story choices of all time. I think Y&R did this at the end of the decade where Devon learned that dull Eva (whatever her name was) was not his biological aunt after all so he decided to get some ass. This is even worse as at one time Ridge thought Bridget was his daughter.

If you make it to 2004, I will be curious to see if there are any hints onscreen to the story that was rumored to have been dumped because of Janet Jackson's nipple (a Caitlin/Eric relationship).

Thanks for the OG photo. I like Susan's jacket.

@Soapysoap Thank you for the lovely photos of Susan.

Just for the record I never said Krista Allen was "fired" - I said - "let go". And here is where I based it from.

Krista told Deadline that her contract wasn’t renewed when it was up for negotiations in October.

“The craziest thing is right before I got dropped, I did the cast photo shoot, and then the next week they called and said, ‘we’re not going to keep your third year and thank you very much, you were wonderful and thank you, goodbye. And I was like, what?” she told Deadline.

She continued, “I think the hardest thing for me has been trying to stay quiet. I haven’t known what to say.

The only person I used the word fired with is Hunter Tylo and anyone can check that out from her recent podcasts.

Second, not ever have I said in this topic that Bradley Bell doesn't have the right to fire people. Not ever. Like any boss he can do that. What I said and where all of this started from was that I had heard there was some drama behind the scenes before Macy was killed off. That's it. I had never said that Bobbie was fired. I knew she wasn't from what I was told and I knew the issue was what I read in the Dan Krol article. Anyone can agree to disagree. But should keep their private opinions about me....private since this topic is not a discussion of me.

Again, what I read in that article is pretty much consistent with what I was told and that to me was indeed out of the ordinary just ebb and flow of people coming and going for Bold and I considered it behind the scenes drama. I still do. Not anyone telling me that it isn't in their eyes will change that. Seeing what I saw on screen pretty much confirmed it for me.

Fascinating.  When Krista Allen was fired, they filmed her in all the publicity shots of the entire cast, and then immediately let her go

Yes, that little part about the photoshoot reminded me of that too, even though the situations are clearly different.

The contract was dropped, which is so crazy. It’s like, make that make sense.”  Allen, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her performance in a daytime drama series at the Daytime Emmy Awards, said it was bittersweet getting the nomination and having the news break that she wouldn’t be returning.

Allen remembered that she was speechless when she got the news. “I didn’t know what to say, so I didn’t say anything.”

“I think I might write a book,” Allen declared. “It’s based on a true story… About a woman who took over a role on a soap opera and against all odds ended up winning over a fan base and getting nominated for an Emmy,” she explained. “And then there’s a lot of backstage drama going on, and she has to find her way.”

I'll for sure update you about that if and when we manage to survive 2003 and enter 2004. ❤️

The root cause of hearsay: “…from what I was told”. Nobody from production approached anyone on the streets to inform about cast employment matters. Reading unsubstantiated articles or listening to deranged fan opinions and then coming here to theorise probables doesn’t make anything factual. Employees will always get released for an array of reasons - they aren’t victims because of it. Brad, like any employer, will sometimes need to make hard decisions to protect the wellbeing of existing employees. People (and unhinged fans) need to wake-up and read between the lines - production isn’t the problem!

God Macy's end was so pathetic. They must have had a horrible fight behind the scenes for them to write her off like this. I forgot how sudden and absurd it was... like a bad telenovela. 2003 continues to make us suffer. But me and the husband are fighting to finish it. The writing is so bad, at times even worse than today.

Hi @Maxim just wanted to say I really enjoy your posts, such as this one, and your deep-dives into other soaps like Edge of Night and One Life to Live.

Quite possible, I guess we don't know for sure, but it's interesting to speculate. I find many take it all too seriously and get defensive about it like they know these people and have to defend their honour or something, lol.

During a recent photo shoot of the entire B&B cast, Eakes was asked to leave. The request to have the actress leave halfway through the shoot caught many of her co-stars by surprise. The request was apparently made so that Eakes would not appear in publicity photos on the event that she exited the show."

I was wrong to give the implication that Krista Allen was "fired".  I should have said that she was notified that her contract was not renewed.

My intent was *not* to discuss whether any actor should stay or remain, or why/how management decides things.

I was simply amused/intrigued at the coincidence of two actresses years apart, in unrelated circumstances, being released/unrenewed (or choosing to leave) around the time of a photoshoot.

Does anyone know the air date on this B&B recap episode that Sarah Buxton hosted on Channel 5 in UK?

It would have been around mid-2000, I think. Channel 5 had wrapped up ‘Sunset Beach’ in February of that year, and since Annie Douglas (Sarah Buxton) was so popular on UK screens, they wanted her on B&B as soon as possible, so they jumped ahead. I’m unclear on how many episodes they skipped to get to Sarah’s first episode as Morgan (3240). They may even have skipped past her actual first episode.

Note: This exact clip was produced in February 2000 for broadcasters around the world who wanted to jump ahead in the storyline. Ireland (TV3), the UK (Channel 5), and Norway (TVNorge) are three countries I know of that jumped ahead. Ireland, for example, ran this 5-minute clip for an entire week immediately before the episodes started, to make viewers aware of the jump.

Hope this helps 🙂
