GRIMM

“Grimm” is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Those weren’t stories -- they were warnings. Nick Burkhardt (David Guintoli “Turn The Beat Around”) thought he prepared himself for the realities of working as a homicide detective until he started seeing things he couldn’t quite explain. When his ailing Aunt Marie (guest star Kate Burton, “Grey’s Anatomy”) arrives, Nick's life turns upside down when she reveals they are descendants of an elite group of hunters, also known as “Grimms,” who fight to keep the balance of humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world. As Nick digs deeper into her past, he realizes that he will have to shoulder the responsibility of his ancestors -- and contend with a larger-than-life mythology of the Brothers Grimm that is now all too real. Russell Hornsby (“Lincoln Heights”), Bitsie Tulloch (“Quarterlife”), Silas Weir Mitchell (“Prison Break”), Reggie Lee (“Persons Unknown”) and Sasha Roiz (“Caprica”) also star. “Grimm” is a production of Universal Media Studios and Hazy Mills Productions. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner (“Hot in Cleveland”) serve as executive producers, Jim Kouf (“National Treasure,” “Angel”) and David Greenwalt (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel”) are the creators/executive producers and Marc Buckland (“My Name Is Earl”) is the director.

I watched this and I wasn't impressed at all. Once Upon a Time was much better, imo. People must be interested in the whole fairy tale thing though, considering that both these shows got decent ratings.

The series premiere of Grimm surprised to the upside, notching a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating. That was the best non-sports Friday rating on any network since 12/31/10 (New Year's Rockin' Eve).

I loved Grimm. To my surprise, I liked it more than Once Upon A Time which I adore. The monsters and their quick movements in Grimm really scared me. It is dark and terrifying which appeals to me. Finding out that Nick's boss was one of the monsters or in league with them was an excellent twist at the end. I can't wait to see what happens next. I am glad that Grimm did well. I hope that maintains those ratings so it sticks around.

Am I wrong in thinking this is NBC's only hit of the fall season? Not that one episode makes a hit, but this is the best rated new show they have, right? I wonder if it would be in their best interest to move it to a different night.

I was checking out the ratings at tvbythenumbers and I think that you are right that Grimm is NBC's only "hit" so far this season. If it continues to do well, then NBC will have to move it to a better night or it will wither and die on Fridays.

I was surprised to hear the the main male character detective was a contestant on Road Rules and a season of the RW/RR Challenge.

I liked it. I didn't watch Once Upon a Time, but I like how accessible this premise seems.

My main concern about Grimm is that might turn into an annoying procedural with a monster of the week, but it does have an overarching mystery that might carry it along nicely.

I agree--I hope it has some serial aspect--David Greenwalt is behind it who was ehad writer for the first two years of Angel, so...

I liked it more than I expected! Love the style, and it was actually kinda scary. if we're comparing them (though they're so different in tone) i think I prefered it to Once Upona Time which ahd a fun pilot but I can see falling apart in all its whimsy and cutesiness. We'll see.

I loved this show!

I think it clearly has a serial aspect that will over-arc the episodes, much like angel did. It also had the CSi/Criminal Minds mini-arc feel as well.
