Tonja Walker (Alex) recently did a livestream on YouTube inviting fans to ask whatever they want - no topic was offlimits. Politics did come up and Tonja confirmed she is a Trump supporter - was originally going to back RFK Jr. but since he has dropped out, she has gone back to Trump

In preparation for the Rauch-Gottlieb changeover, I went back and looked at our threads on this topic. The article mentioning Linda's casting of unique looking character actors like Paul Bartel and Wallace Shawn rushed back to me when watching Penn Jillette orchestrate Tina's makeover.

After seeing him in the role, Chris ended up being my favorite of the Joeys - he was good at the sarcasm but also the heartfelt moments. I don't think the character ever clicks after that (almost all of the material for Nathan's Joey sucks once his initial story with Dorian is over, and the show never invested in the last three Joeys).

I see they are approaching Loon Lake storyline. I see many of the comments saying that Craig Carlson is still writing the show and Malone starts August 3 also that Gottlieb’s influence is starting around July 3 or 4.

Hard to know since the closing credits don’t appear.

Kirk Geiger was a good Kevin. From what I’m seeing in these 1991 rewatch Joey Thrower is not as bad as that godawful Matthew Vipond

My tortured retcon of the retcon there was always that Mitch Laurence had somehow engineered the false memory.

Mitch was obsessed in his later years with identifying with Victor Lord and his empire; he took his house, his wife and was obsessed with taking everything he had. You will recall that during Malone II he even had a psychotic break where he briefly believed he was Victor and Jessica was Viki. (There were some really strange scenes at Victor's secret mansion in the woods where he forced Viki to dance with him while speaking to her as Victor, and she had to play along.) Given that obsession on his part I can see Mitch's skullduggery somehow creating the scenario where Jessica develops an alter and history of abuse, just like the Viki/Victor saga. It's ridiculous, but so was Tess and Jessica being molested.

Were the show on today, I'd just handwave it away in a few lines: Jessica's DID was all just a false memory engineered by Mitch Laurence's schemes which she has undone with years of therapy, done. (But the trauma has left her still a different person.)

    • Millette Alexander got the short end of the stick once they killed off Joe. The Justin thing was a non-starter. Then she was briefly married to Alan's corrupt lawyer and HE was killed off. She was paired briefly with Adam and that ended because she believed Holly over Roger about the rape. Definitely, Marland had zero interest in her except as the therapist for the many, many of his female characters who needed therapy. It's not odd she left the show. One of the rare 1978 episodes on YT shows Alan going to Cedars for a physical check-up. He ends up with Sarah as his doctor. In between making mysoginistic comments about women doctors, he also openly flirts with her. It's very obvious they were chem testing Sarah and Alan. It's a really good scene. Bernau is both obnoxious and charming and Millette is amazing, trying to be pleasant and profesional without rolling her eyes at him, but at the same time maybe a LITTLE bit attracted to him. An interesting what-might-have-been. So it appears the Dobsons were actively looking for someone to pair her with, they just never found the right one for a long-term story.

    • First, let me say I love reading all of your takes and thoughts. They always provide a different point of view... a breath of fresh air... in this sometimes stuffy topic.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
