Well, Erica AND Rachel were both created by Agnes Nixon - and Agnes had created Erica before Rachel (even though AMC didn't go on the air until Rachel had been on AW for several years). I just don't see Vicky Wyndham as someone who would go through that many men like Erica did, and I can't see Susan Lucci playing the nuances and maturity that VW's Rachel had. Then again, Agnes wasn't writing for Rachel by the time VW was cast (Harding Lemay was), so it's fun to imagine what might have been had she been writing Rachel as played by VW rather than Robin Strasser.

Susan Lucci was and is Erica to me. I don't know that I'd feel the same way about the character if another actress played the part. I watched AW for bit in the early 90s, and I didn't feel any particular pull toward VW or toward Rachel. I started watching AMC around the same time, and I was immediately drawn in by Erica. So for me, a different actress would have changed everything.

I guess it depends on how you view Trey/Ben. If you think he was an abomination of a retcon who never should have existed because the idea of Vanessa seeing Richard Fields rape Erica and do NOTHING about it other than place her own baby for adoption was an unneeded horrific retcon to Erica's rape story, then maybe it's better to forget him. Would he have an interesting dynamic with Kendall, Greenlee, David, Ryan and Bianca? Sure. Is it worth it to explain to newer viewers how he came to be and why Erica hates him? I don't know. I'm undecided.

If they'd cast a different actor to play Jane Campbell's Ben in 2011, then it could have been interesting to find out that Trey/Ben was the one who caused the accident that killed Jane's daughter and that he'd been secretly working for David. To me, that would have been an interesting twist.

As far as bringing villains back though, I think ABC erred tremendously in never bringing back Marj Dusay as Vanessa. I'd have rather had her come back for a short stint than Trey/Ben. I'd have also welcomed back Michael Sabatino as Jonathan Kinder. I assume TPTB thought Jonathan was too similar to David Hayward, but I still think it would have been interesting to have him come back to PV at some point, bent on revenge against Erica, Janet and Skye. Heck, I'd have been fine with him coming after Erica and KC's Janet in the mid-2000s.

I suspect we would have had a few withdrawals next year if Israel had won. I don't think many people would relish going to Jerusalem as things stand now. Not to mention it would have been a prime target for terrorist attacks.
    • And they've given us plenty. Sets, outdoor scenes, music licensing, etc. And that was the point of me using DAYS... so. It's obvious the casino set is not intended for long-term use, hence why it's likely it wasn't as evolved as the other community sets, etc.

    • I just had thought of how to save the Perkins family. (Inspired by Rituals) -- What if Marisa Perkins was Augusta Lockridge's sister? Fictionally, they could've both been local girls, one married rich and one married poor. Originally, I was going to suggest that Marisa be Sophia's sister, but then I realized Joe and Kelly would've been first cousins.  Of course, it would've truly inspired Sophia was if Rosa Andrade sister, with Rosa and Santana moving in to help CC raise the kids once Sophia disappeared.  While this could've avoided both gross CC and Santana affairs, the times were not right for a story about intersectional inequity.
    • https://www.instagram.com/p/DJxW5DLJLId/ Another World is my forever favorite soap opera. But it's finale is almost universally hated by its fans. What this is, is an edit where I've deleted everything I didn't like!!!
    • The Perkins family had potential to be a nice alternative to the more dysfunctional Capwells and wackier Lockridges... but I think a few factors did in the family. 1) Recasting of Joe Perkins 2) Bad casting of the Perkins Patriarch, and the one note writing for that character. 3) Lack of antagonistic interaction between the Capwells/Lockridges and Perkins.  (There was no awkwardness between Jade/Ted.. or CC disapproving of his son being friends with that Perkins girl, etc). 4) Wasting of Jade thus wasting the potential of the actress (which was realized on Days of Our Lives).  She had more potential than Laken oddly enough. The only member of the Perkins family that had appeal and a somewhat thought out story arc was Amy.
    • @GymnastGuyThanks for posting the three new Capitol 1985 episodes today. The two labeled March 12, and 13 are misidentified. The March 12 labeled one actually aired November 12 1985 which I figured out because Kenny Rogers' movie Wild Horses aired November 12th and it was announced over the "March 12" Cap credits. In addition, Craig Carlson is listed in the April credits but not the March. Craig left Capitol sometime after July 1985 before he rejoined OLTL in the credits by October 15, 1985; he was replaced on Cap by Radcliffe and Hamner. In these posted episodes Radcliffe/Hamner names appear in the March 85 episodes but not in the April.
