I love this too - thanks for posting! It must have been his time being an acting coach and/or directing at AMC, because you're right, Reggie left in 2006 and Jesse came back in 2008.

All this talk about where/what Erica was doing... reminded me that Jack Montgomery was on GH back in 2023 for a handful of episode. He mentioned that as of that time, he and Erica had been divorced for several years. I guess that technically would be canon...

Loved how Michael B. Jordan called Susan, Ms. Lucci 😊

AMC's Gellar: She's outta here!

Sarah Michelle Gellar— the dynamic teen star who just won an Emmy as the demon-seed daughter of Erica Kane—will depart All My Children effective with the July 3 episode. But before she goes byebye, Gellar wants to set the record straight:

"Contrary to what one newspaper reported, I was not fired because I won the Emmy and Susan Lucci didn't," laughs the 18-yearold actress. “Nor, as another one claimed, did I win on a Friday night and quit the following Monday morning because I'm ‘too big for my britches.’” In fact, Gellar's farewell—orchestrated at her request —has been in the works for many months. “I decided some time ago not to renew my contract [which elapses next February] and told the show very far in advance, because I felt it was fair. Then, when my storyline slowed to one day a week, I asked to be released even earlier. I’m the type that needs to be acting eight days a week, 25 hours a day."

Gellar's character— nasty, backstabbing Kendall Hart—was a sensation the instant she hit the screen. But lately, the part has become an albatross. "I was offered two other projects, which I was not released to do. And to be honest, I was a little bitter about that," says Gellar, who, while technically obligated to AMC, has spent the last several months meeting with casting execs from several major films, including "The Crucible" (with Daniel Day-Lewis) and dueling versions of "Romeo and Juliet" (one with Ethan Hawke, the other with Leonardo DiCaprio).

But she is more than a red-hot property—Gellar’s star power makes headlines. The supermarket tabs have had a field day with this actress practically since her early-1993 arrival at AMC (one rag went so far as to photograph Gellar, costar Sydney Penny, and Penny's fiancé, Rob Powers, arriving at an ABC Christmas party, and then eliminated Penny from the shot to insinuate that Gellar, who was then a minor, was secretly stepping out with Powers). Printed reports of a Gellar/Lucci feud have been particularly juicy: Some paint Lucci as a vengeful, insecure diva who couldn't bear acting opposite a younger, prettier, and more talented version of herself, while others characterize Gellar as a pint-sized Eve Harrington who took devilish delight in pushing Lucci's emotional buttons. The truth, as always, lies somewhere in between. "Susan and I were not best friends, and we're never going to be," Gellar states. “Basically, the best І can say is that we worked together—on top of each other—for so long that problems were inevitable. But they were also greatly exaggerated by the press... and now they've sort of worked themselves out." She adds: “I’ve had a wonderful run on All My Children.I'm not going to lie and say that it was a problem-free dream job on a cloud. "But would I do it all over again? Absolutely,”

Thanks @janea4old @Paul Raven

It does tell you about the tension backstage that they didn't even bother to keep Sarah to the length of her contract - this means Kendall could have been around for Erica's pill addiction story.

I'll listen to the Susan Lucci appearance on the podcast.

In a way, it's refreshing that Sarah Michelle Gellar didn't try to paint a rosy picture of her relationship with Susan in that particular interview. I wonder if the two have ever had a conversation about their time on the show years later.

Sarah has always been blunt as hell lol. God bless.

I don't know if you all have seen the AI-generated fight scene between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise or the AI-generated scenes of Seinfeld going around. It all looks so real, it's unbelievable. But it had me thinking, if all of that could be done with AI, could a revival of a canceled soap, like All My Children, be done with AI? I personally prefer TV production the old fashioned way, but I think this opens up so many possibilities. If actors can get paid to license their images, I feel like we could revisit All My Children from the 1980s, for example, with Erica, Greg, Jenny, Opal, etc. with brand new storylines.

The AI thing is so weird and murky for me, but if I'm being completely honest, if someone spent the time to feed it scripts from the early years in order to make recreations of episodes that were wiped, I would absolutely be interested. If it's something that simply doesn't exist anymore and is impossible to see in its original form, then roll it out.

I'd rather chew glass than watch that.

Gosh, I wonder the same. I get both sides... someone who is ~18 dealing with their first big acting gig that took day/night, and an almost 50-year old playing a mom for the first time. Gosh, I can't believe Susan was almost 50 in the mid-90s, I'm actually shocked right now looking up her age/birth date. It doesn't seem possible. Anyway... I get it, so I would be curious how they both feel today. I'm assuming they haven't worked together since, but I have to imagine SMG has matured since then and they would likely be on similar pages today. Regardless, I'll always love the both of them and their storyline back then. Wow was it good.

I don't know. An AI-generated revival of AMC couldn't be any worse than what Chuck Pratt forced on us.

Yes - recreating long gone episodes is something that might interest me, if technology improves enough to make that viable.

I'm finally watching this tonight and here are my running thoughts:

I hate to dog on someone, but Alan Locher just drives me crazy. He messes up the intro, he doesn't pay attention because he's clicking around on his computer and his eyes are going all over the computer screen. It just takes away from the interview. I also wonder if he ever really watched non-CBS shows. He eventually got better, but anyway, I started watching only Rodney's camera and it made it much better. Rodney was so prepared and articulate and I'm so happy he was here to give his story. I loved to hear that his family was a fan of OLTL and GH back in the 60s. And that's where I get conflicted, because I love that Alan is able to get these interviews for us, so I'd rather have this than nothing at all. Ok, rant over... this was amazing and I'm so happy to see that 30 years later, this is important and people remember. I'll never forget watching this story as a 12-year old boy and thinking holy crap...

I loved Chris Bruno, but I hate the fact that he took this interview in a parking lot, looking like a guido gym rat. He gives me Frank Grillo (Hart, GL) vibes. He did take it seriously once he found a stable spot, so I'm glad he made the best of the situation. His story about his dad and trans people was very sweet... Interesting that he remembered Dixie's name and how he was originally going to be her love interest. Wow, he still stays in touch with the old Scott Chandler, Timmy Dillon, Anita Santos... and then he's the Godfather of Mark and Kelly's firstborn?!?! That is wild, I love it. I love how Chris seemed so proud and happy to hear that AMC won the Emmy for Best Writing for this storyline. Ok I forgive, sorta, Chris for taking this interview from a parking lot on his phone only because he actually loved this and was so happy about this.

And wow, Rodney is still a teacher in rural Missouri, which is where I grew up and where my family still lives. I wonder where in MO he is, I'd love to meet him one day. His confidence and overall demeanor was actually quite attractive, which personally I'm surprising myself.

And they even brought up the AMC revival! Hahaha...

I'd love to hear @EricMontreal22's thoughts on this interview... hope you're still around!

@alwaysAMC Thanks for the summary! I hadn't watched yet because, while I think Alan has gotten a bit too much hate at times, I feel like his interviewing abilities have gotten even worse. The last few I watched (Jean LeClerc and Alex Walters) were enough to make me put those on pause. I agree he has likely no history with these soaps and doesn't seem to want to try.

I'm glad Wilson was such a great guest and that Chris Bruno had a lot to offer too. Bruno could have easily just stopped talking about this story given today's climate.

You're welcome! I was happy to finally find time to watch this, because this storyline was so important to me as a young kid. After watching it, I felt like Chris was very supportive of it and the political talk towards the end was so reminiscent of what I live in today. I don't want to get political, but Chris surprised me and I was appreciative of his thoughts.

Wilson really impressed me. He was so prepared, articulate and compassionate. He seems way younger than he should be haha.

AMC in this era was really quite entertaining and informative. I love that show :)
