April 15, 201114 yr Member What pisses me off is the cancellation apparantly was in the works, even while actors were uprooting their lives to move to CA. I really don't think it was. I think they had planned to cancel OLTL when they moved AMC to L.A., but then AMC's ratings collapsed.
April 15, 201114 yr Member What pisses me off is the cancellation apparantly was in the works, even while actors were uprooting their lives to move to CA. I see your point, but at the same time they make serious money. That's something many of them will not be able to do again, so it was probably worth it to make that $200,000+ for a year or two more. These people are actors, they know that nothing is promised beyond the moment. That goes for the crew as well. It's not like these types of jobs are low hanging fruit anymore. I feel really bad that they are out of work, but they must have thought it was worth their time to stick with AMC.
April 15, 201114 yr Member I am kinda hoping they bring back Dixie for Tad at the end. Then I get....
April 15, 201114 yr Member We still have primetime shows to discuss. Thank god cable gave a rebirth to scripted drama. YES! My favorite dramas are on cable (except for The Good Wife, Fringe, and The Chicago Code): Shameless, Justified, Mad Men, The Killing, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, True Blood, Spartacus, The Borgias, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, hopefully the upcoming Game of Thrones.... Network dramas are so ordinary these days.
April 15, 201114 yr Member If anyone wants to join us in the Foreign Soaps forum, you're more than welcomed. We're a small, but loyal bunch. I realize that not ever has access to good torrents though, which is how many of us keep up with the UK soaps at least.
April 15, 201114 yr Member So that leaked video of Frons telling AMC & OLTL they've been canceled, Disney already got it yanked off of youtube. Somebody's pissed...
April 15, 201114 yr Member I just wish they'd stop telling us that this is all about higher ratings and what "the viewers want" and be honest about the sh!t. These shows are cheaper. They're cheaper. They make more money because it takes less money to make them. Just. Be. F!cking. Honest. And stop with the spin. Exactly.
April 15, 201114 yr Member I really don't think it was. I think they had planned to cancel OLTL when they moved AMC to L.A., but then AMC's ratings collapsed. I don't, cause there were rumors AMC was being cancelled not long before the move was announced. Something like this doesn't happen overnight, it had to be in the works for awhile. I honestly believe OLTL was always safe cause it didn't move. It had more stability, AMC was unstable before the move and it got worse afterwards
April 15, 201114 yr Member In an interview I just read on TV Guide it says ABC is open to having offers from cable and other networks on taking over the shows. According to TV Guide, OWN and Hallmark have both passed. It's a nice effort but no one is going to pick them up. I'm not saying AMC and/or OLTL have any chance at all of continuing, but if this is true and not just more "talk," then whoever will be responsible for selling these shows to another outlet (and by the way, has it not occurred to anyone whether AMC or OLTL could be viable on, say, Lifetime?) will have to rethink how these shows are produced. Because, a straight-up, old-fashioned, five-day-a-week daytime drama ain't gonna appeal to anyone.

April 15, 201114 yr Member Could soaps work like a primetime show does? Have seasons that run from Sept to May, then off for the summer?
April 15, 201114 yr Member More from Robin Roberts: RobinRoberts Robin Roberts Not sure but it's worth a try. I'm a fan too.RT @Auggies_Mom: @RobinRoberts do you think that the fans can come together and save the soaps?
April 15, 201114 yr Member taylorkg Taylor Groothuis Huge bummer about All My Children!! But don't forget to watch on May 9th, 'cause I have a guest spot! I hope ABC will change their minds!
April 15, 201114 yr Member They treat soap fans with contempt. They don't want soap fans watching their new shows IMO. They have spent years hoping soap fans just disappear. This.
April 15, 201114 yr Author Administrator Could soaps work like a primetime show does? Have seasons that run from Sept to May, then off for the summer? I'd rather want Monday-Thursday airings. 4 day averages will be higher because Fridays are usually the lowest of the week. And you can shut down production for about 2 months.
