AMC and OLTL Canceled!

This is what I would like to see. I can understand why Oprah would not be interested in 40 year old shows. But what about any scripted programming? Would one scripted show be worth taking the risk, especially if it helps save her network from increasingly bad ratings?

If Oprah's network can't afford them so be it.

They need to be on a network that can afford them. These soaps don't have to air during daytime hours anymore unless a broadcaster picks them up due to affiliate restrictions. I think great hours for these soaps to air would be those early evening hours, B&B does very well overseas airing around 4-7pm in those locations. Daytime is just not a destination for them anymore.

It's real funny though how Hoover sales have dramatically increased this week since they protested ABC and took their ads off. That's real bad business for ABC to be having one of their major sponsors leave them eventually other sponsors will do the same since their sales are up.

At least Robin Strasser is consistent, if nothing else.

I think it is possible to do a successful serialized program, hello Mad Men.

If I had the money of Oprah I wouldn't take on soaps in this manner, because if things didn't work out I'd become the devil myself... I'd be willing to do reruns though...

These people really give soap viewers a bad name. Yes, it's incredibly sad that these iconic shows will soon be gone, but life goes on. I'm heartbroken over it. But if you're going to protest, there are far, far more important things in this world to protest than a network for cancelling a television show. A. TELEVISION. SHOW. People need to get some perspective. I don't understand people who do these sort of things. And some of the hyperbole is ridiculous. Nelson compared Frons to Hitler. That was just insulting and ridiculous. I know emotions are running high, but c'mon, get a grip.

Yes, this is an example of what I meant earlier about reinventing the genre. Take the 5 day a week format and do something different with it, like air it later during the day or consolidate it to one day a week. Although, since OWN is a startup, I think it would be risky. I'd like to see an established cable channel do a late night soap, like SOAPnet for example.

DON'T TWEET TWEEKED: AMC/OLTL could be broadcast AT NIGHT, if Oprah opines that's the 1 digit obstacle. Her discourse drips diss-dain.

I don't believe she should pick up the soaps. I mean any scripted programming, or quasi-serial programming. The lack of interesting material on Oxygen ultimately doomed the network (all I ever watched on there was Girls Behaving Badly, reruns of Canadian soft porn Bliss at 1 in the morning, Oprah after the show, and reruns of Kate and Allie) and it sounds like the same is happening with OWN.
