Yikes, now don't act like I'm one of the crazies! I was just saying...harassing Oprah and Lifetime when they've already said that they won't be picking the show up is crazier than wearing your Sunday muumuu because your fave couple's getting married.

I've never dressed up for a wedding on a soap but I've sure as hell taken off work to watch one. I did my share of campaigning when Port Charles was cancelled. :( I had a feeling even back then that Frons would destroy ABC daytime.

I also just wanted to thank Scotty for all the links to the articles and tweets you've provided. I've enjoyed reading all of them. *hug*

You're welcome. :)

And the madness continues....

Die-Hard Fans Boycott Soap Cancellations

A local group of soap lovers joins a national protest of the cancellations

Thursday, Apr 21, 2011 | Updated 5:19 PM CDT

By Lisa Balde

Brandi Macon won't stand for the death of her good friends.

"I was so sad," Macon said. "I was hurt. How could they do this?"

The 29-year-old Chicago native and 12-year soap opera watcher plans to protest Tuesday against the recent cancelation of her favorite soaps, "All My Children" and "One Life to Live." She joins about 35 equally frustrated supporters at 10:30 a.m. in front of ABC's State Street home in Chicago.

It's part of a string of protests by fans across the country in New York, Austin and Los Angeles.

"It came with no warning," Macon said of the cancelations. "How dare you do this to our family."

Macon started watching soaps with her mom in 1999, back when Dixie Martin of "All My Children" developed heart problems and refused to confide in the love of her life. Macon found her mom roped into the storyline and yelling at the TV, "Dixie, get it together!"

Since then, "All My Children," along with "One Life to Live" and ABC's "General Hospital," became part of her life. Thanks to three hours of daily recordings, Macon knows the shows' characters like her (heavily dramatized) best friends.

"People think it's just a TV show, but these characters become such a part of your life," said the 29-year-old Chicago native. "We laugh with them, we cry with them. When somebody dies, we feel it. It's important to us."

Last week, the death knell sounded for two of them. "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" were canceled in favor of an evolving daytime lineup on ABC.

Viewers banded together under a Protest Across America Facebook group. Some vowed not to watch the network. Others plan to turn out Tuesday to protest.

The group even started reaching out to sponsors, and soon after, Hoover pulled its ads. Macon calls it a movement. About 2,500 Chicago-based fans joined her Facebook group and other groups boast more.

"It's growing every day," she said.

Eh...she only has 12 years...let's talk when you have 32 plus years of watching like me....

LOL! There are no words for the lack of perspective from some on this thread. It makes me shake my head and roll my eyes. Two television shows have been canceled. It is unfortunate that people have been put out of work, but it isn't some kind of world changing event. But then again, don't give them any ideas about marching any where.

And notice how pretty much nothing is said about Daytime being in trouble long before ABC ever hired Frons nor about fixing the billions of things (both prior to & during Frons tenure) wrong with genre.

It's all KEEPTHESOAPSONTVNOMATTERWHAT!

Yeah, but she's only 29, so that's not really possible, is it? LOL I've been watching 15 years. Some would scoff at that, but does it change anything when you find out I'm 26? I guess for me it's the same as 12 years is almost half her life...just as much as 32 year is half of someone else's life.

That said, LMFAO at 35 people. Awww.

It's hard to not be judgmental... I just can't get over the idea that people are actually saying that they will now NOT tune-in for the shows. It's like irrational-detachment; they're so angry, that they're going to miss-out on what will probably be some of the best stuff they've seen in ages. They're not only damaging the shows they're trying to save, but robbing themselves of dramatic pay-off / closure. I mean, most of them will probably keep tuning in despite what they claim... but their proposed response is just so backassward.

Can Hoover's Marketing Save Dying Soap Operas?

http://www.fastcompa...o-he-says-he-is

I liked this article.

Hoover, I'm afraid if you don't do something soon, those soap fans will ask for a refund.

But both ladies are very young and are age appropriate for many advertisers...

I found Oprah's statement very refreshing and I love that she cut to the chase. ("If there was a penny to be made...") I know people like to think that she's Jesus but it isn't her job to save souls AND soap operas too. Her network has its OWN struggles (<--you see how I...) and the women who aren't home watching soaps are the women who aren't home watching her brand of gynocentric programming either.

I didn't expect her to save soaps, but I kind of didn't like the fact that she said there isn't a penny to be made on them. I think there is, but Oprah, or someone would have to reinvent the soap genre. Airing 5 days a week on cable won't be profitable. But a soap repackaged a different way could be profitable, probably not on OWN since it's a startup, but maybe on a more established cable channel.

She walks in condescending certitude doesn't Oprah, having gotten rich in the afternoon. You could put a continuing drama on a night? HarpNO

She is a smart business woman. She knows whether or not she can make money from them.

But she doesn't HAVE to and she doesn't WANT to. She's not obligated to save this [!@#$%^&*] and I have no idea how people have the nerve to get upset with her about this. Oprah is a cotdamn billionaire, none of us are, and while OWN may have some problems, I would trust that she's making the best decision for herself and her brand as she has for 25 damn years.
