AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I have to agree with the sad truth that almost nobody seemed to care about ATWT's cancellation. Like Eric, I was shocked at how little public outcry resulted from that decision. People should have made a big deal (back then) about the cancellation--and what it meant for the future of the genre--for the following three reasons: First, although ATWT was not my all-time favorite soap, it was (IMO) the most important and influential daytime drama in history (given that it was the soap that was responsible for initiating 30-minute, family-oriented storytelling, as well as the first soap to be a pop culture sensation). Secondly, ATWT's cancellation meant that the company responsible for originating soap operas (P&G) would be without any soaps left on air. And finally, the fact that a show which was #1 in daytime for two decades ended up being axed proved that no television show would last forever.

They didn't intercede because they are just as delusional, pretty much. Instead of saying, "Well, this isn't working, we need to fix it," they said, "Well, this isn't working, and nothing can fix it." Yeah, the parade of sucky HWs followed, but that sure as hell wasn't a solution, and shame on ABC for thinking it was.

Or maybe changing the EP? No good soap has run with a crappy EP....

Wow page 100. I think people cared about ATWT was cancelled, but it wasn't their show. There was no reason to fight as P&G/Televest/Telenext whatever we call it didn't care. Once GL went, most thought it was going to happen sooner rather than later.

Well two soaps were cancelled. So it is a shocker considering most thought it would be just one and then the other the following year not both at the same time.

They probably put more faith in her ability to turn things around than they should have. They realized this too late IMO. Nothing was working, and I mean NOTHING, by the time she left. So what did ABC in its wisdom do...they hired a succession of writers who essentially kept the status quo in terms of the structure and in its mandate of which characters were to be featured. The show needed a massive overhaul in every aspect, but no one wanted to take that on. Their idea of "shaking things up" was pathetic. Let's stage a CGI tornado. That'll bring 'em in! Let's have a lesbian couple in which one of the women falls for a man. Ooh, how provocative! Let's bring back one of our iconic couples, even though one half of the couple was seen dying on screen. The viewers will fall for anything! Instead of making any meaningful changes, they did nothing. Sad for the missed opportunities and what might've been.

Has there been even a peep from Cameron Mathison or Rebecca Budig?

Nope and I don't think there will be, cause both have it made, I doubt they want to piss anyone off

LOL. He obviously doesn't want to piss anyone off at ABC, what with the GMA gig, and she's probably hoping for something on GH. I think that she and Michael Easton are the only two actors that Frons may move over to GH, possibly as the same characters.

Someone posted this on my Becky Herbst board, the person who posted it said this person is reliable

SZCoggie Carol Banks Weber

I just found out from 2nd source: #GH is done too. Gotta hunt down dates of cancellation. I'm not sure if Jeff will put down SoapZone.

Oh my God, if ABC were to announce GH's death within the following month, that's it. Sh!t's going to get CRAZY. If you think AMC and OLTL fans are crazy, you've never seen pissed off GH fans.

Yeah they both know they'll be kept in the ABC family somewhere as long as they don't ruffle any feathers. Still I would think they could come up with some non-controversial statements.
