Which might explain why we're still grieving tonight for the loss of AMC. Not that their presence alone led directly to the show's cancellation, but the fact that they continued to receive the lion's share of airtime at the expense of others was just too much for many to take, IMO.

When SMG came on as Kendall, I remember that being around the time I started checking out AMC religiously. I'll always have a soft spot for her Kendall.

Minchew has always had a bland and boring screen presence to me. It didn't help that when years later it seemed like Kendall, Greenlee, Zach, and Ryan were all you saw on the show...

Sorry Angie, but I just find AM underwhelming. I mean, she's certainly a decent actress. But she's not...Kendall. And sometimes she is just overwhelmingly bad.

I liked Alicia's Kendall when she first came on. (That may be because I despised SMG and her hating on my La Lucci). However, when she became domestic, and when her life became defined by Greenlee, she began to bore me.

I also really enjoyed Alicia's first few years as Kendall. They lost any direction for the character after that and while I can't say she ever damaged AMC for me the way Greenlee did (from pretty much her first appearances), I can see why people got sick of her.

AM was good when she first came in. Probably because she realized what big-ass shoes she had to fill. But once she was in the role for a while, and became accepted as Kendall, she stopped trying IMO.

She IS Kendall and she's improved by leaps and bounds and I'm sorry if you can't see that. The stuff after Zach died was awesome. I saw people who don't even like Kendall or AM say how she blew them away.

The Hungarian location shoot was my intro to AMC, I believe. Or at least my first memoury of watching the show.

I loved it, and in retrospect, I'm surprised McTavish handled the gothic elements so well. I really wish more of that story was on YouTube.

I wonder if SMG will issue a statement. There's another autobio I'd read if she "went there".

I don't agree with you about Jamie Luner though. I think she is good. Is she the Liza we all knew and loved? Nope! But neither is JvD's Clint on OLTL. They're new incarnations and fresh faces of characters we know. And when we accept them as that, we realize how good they are. Jamie Luner is a more talented, capable actress than AM IMO.

I wouldn't agree she "IS" Kendall though. I think she is identifiable as Kendall, and maybe even more recognizable in the role. But Kendall hasn't been significant or likeable, really, since SMG. And SMG will always have been the stronger of the two actresses.

Now don't take this as a complete AM bash. She's done some good stuff. In her first few years, I liked her (thought it was hard to accept anyone but SMG). I think, like many other long-term soap actors at ABCD, she became lazy. She stopped trying. When the story wasn't about her (Kendall), she didn't give it much. Sure, there were bright spots (some of the Zach death stuff was good), but it's outweighed by the overall lack of effort otherwise.

So, while I accept AM and even like her at times, there's ALWAYS a part of me that wonders what it would have been like if SMG played Kendall.

SMG brought out the best in Lucci, IMO. Maybe it was their personal issues, but SMG and Lucci had incredible chemistry together.

I think SMG playing Kendall was the last time La Lucci stepped up her acting game consistently.

AM was great when she first appeared but then she got boring...and Yes the show revolved around those 4 for too long making the show unwatchable.

But she's not...Kendall.

Loved SMG's Kendall, and hated when I heard they were going to recast but AM became the definitive Kendall for me. No, I don't mean that in a negative way . I immediately liked her in the role because she looked so much like SL and she was like this perfect combo of SL/SMG's mannerisms, very charismatic. I forgot about SMG in the role with the abortion clinic scene with Bianca, which stands out to me as one of AMC's best scenes ever.

I wouldn't mind Gellar coming back though but just for a quick walk-on as some stranger.
