AMC and OLTL Canceled!

But true believers fight still when the fight is lost. If they first handicapped the situation and determined what their percentage chance of winning was, they wouldn't be campaigning in the first place.

I forget which was the show a few years back that went off the air but the campaign saved it. I want to say it was some sci fi show on SciFi Network.

If anything, continue to encourage Kennedy Center honoree Oprah to nourish the artistic community by exploring new and interesting ways to produce cost-effective yet quality scripted series and to not rely on reality programming.

She cared for the genre, but not nearly as much as she cared about her own place in it... particularly when it came to AMC. You mention her likely being crushed by the news, and I agree... but as I mentioned before in this therad, I'd really love to hear - call it morbid curiousity - her response to the news. I think it would show tremendous growth / class for her to praise that the show is ending with Lorraine Broderick at the writing helm (though I won't hold my breath!).

Yeah, me too. I would love to see what she'd have to say. While I don't expect her gushing for Lorraine Broderick and her ending the show, I would expect her to offer some retrospect. She spent collectively over a decade writing, or co-writing the show.

LOL! There are no words for the lack of perspective from some on this thread. It makes me shake my head and roll my eyes. Two television shows have been canceled. It is unfortunate that people have been put out of work, but it isn't some kind of world changing event. But then again, don't give them any ideas about marching any where.

IMO, the people bugging Oprah got out of hand when the report came and stated very clearly that OWN has no plans to pick up AMC and OLTL or any scripted programming. I'm not sure if they also reported that the shows are simply to expensive and reach too little an audience to justify picking them up, but if they did, then that adds even more to the crazy. This is Oprah damn Winfrey. She's not taking business advice from a tiny fraction of her fanbase (and I hesitate to use the word because I'm sure some people out there have had an awakening in the last week where they've become THE biggest Oprah fans...well, until she released that video, at least).

On the other hand, dressing up for soap weddings and drinking champagne after they say "I do" ain't crazy! I've always looked at that as the same as when the Harry Potter people dress up to go watch the movies. Not something I would personally do, but not necessarily cuckoo.

There's a difference between dressing as a character..ie Halloween....yes this is to the movies...dressing up as a fictional character but getting dressed for a wedding on a tv soap opera??

Maybe cuckoo is too strong of a word to use, but I wouldn't classify it as typical social behaviour. When entertainment begins to mask itself as reality (which I am sorry, Star Trek conventions, dressing up like characters from movies when you go see the movies is making it all a little too real) then I think its safe to label these people as a tad bit eccentric.

Leave! Me! Alone! I swear I've never done it myself nor would I, but I think it's kinda endearing. We always talk about how a huge part of the appeal of soaps if that they're an escape to another world, if only for an hour. Some people like to go a little further than others. I think it's no crazier than crying when something sad happens.

date: Wednesday, May 14 | Christopher Dunn, Jazmen Darnell Brown | Michael V. Pomarico Vernon feeling frisky? Oh, la la! I love a couple that are older in their years and are still vital sexually. That's beautiful and should be more naturally acknowledged. And yes, we are talking about the Articulettes some more. It looks like Bill's hand problems are still existing; it is definitely giving multiple sclerosis, and the child bride is beginning to notice now. Nicole going off on Andre is fire; I love that no one is safe from her firestorm. Dani performing reverse psychology on Nicole was brilliant, and now she's catching the passing glances between Andre and Dani. Eva, what are you trying to get out of by connecting with Katherine when she's made it known you are dead to her? I feel for Eva, because she wants that connection she was robbed of by Dana's manipulations. Not the "Homewrecker Helper", haha. Is that the new flavour from Hamburger Helper? 'Cause I would try that out. I love that Anita called Vernon "vocally challenged" while remarking he might have improved by now. I appreciate that Nicole is not placing blame on Andre and his knowing of Ted's secret, as easy as it could have been to do so. Bradley is the superior (and only parent) to Samantha and Tyrell, and I love seeing his connection with them both. So Deadbeat is inviting Eva to eat pizza with the family? This is... interesting. I am wondering why he's so invested in Eva. I really don't think Bill and Hayley should be doing the deed in his office, especially with what happened with Mike and Becky, Carrie, and Stefania. Dun-dun-dun, Nicole is flat out asking about what's going on between Andre and Dani, and I am here for it. I adore Jacob and Naomi's dedication to helping out June; it makes me wonder if there genuinely is more at play. Anita attempting to keep her composure while playing the piano as Vernon hits every single note but the right one is hilarious. It's those kinds of character traits I adore. Oh, we have got a full house right now; Samantha is inviting Jessica (who I am wary of) over, and Deadbeat bringing Eva home. Dani Dupree Hamilton... now is not the time to keep a secret from Nicole. It would've been much easier to come out and say you've been sleeping with Andre since the time of Bill and Hayley's wedding. Now this is going to become a bigger thing than it absolutely needs to be. Looks like the child bride's idea of "sexy" is messy and unprofessional, something that Bill Hamilton Esq. has a storied history of. Samantha is sassy AF, and I am loving it! It's a nice pace change and lets us see she's got some spice mixed up in that blood. Poor Jessica is wondering why she's included in this group discussion Deadbeat is having and the reveal of running for president. Uh-oh. I feel like this is going to come out, and it's going to affect innocent Tyrell, which is not fair. The reunion of the Articulettes is a go! Let's see how this goes, because as Anita remarked, this could be a disaster. Of course Dani went to immediately screw with Andre. Of course she did. Serenity Beauty & Hair? Are we getting a possible beauty salon set? Omg, please! Sharon isn't into a reunion; I guess that means Sharon is one of the Articulettes, then?! Notes: The product placement is really being sold; I cannot blame Proctor & Gamble, though, nor can I blame CBS Studios/the NAACP for allowing it, either. As a Tide user, I can say I use the original. It's the best. Oh, so we're producing a vinyl sleeve mock-up? Oh, I love that. The attention to detail is key. The story of the Articulettes is definitely a mirror of the Supremes during the Diana Ross era. The continued use of music on this soap is sublime, and it is rich. The outdoor exterior of Orphey Gene's is so much; I kind of wish it were an expanded, real set. Maybe once the budget comes back around, we can expand it? The growing use of June is interesting; it's nice seeing the developing story of this character, especially when on other soaps (i.e., The Bold and the Beautiful) we've seen this turn quickly or become a blink-and-miss type of story. Knowing that Clifton Davis (Vernon) can actually sing, it's impressive seeing him purposefully hit every single wrong note imaginable.
    • Who was Anita calling and why did they hang up?
    • I think he needs to back to GH as Dillon!
    • I just hope someone Febreezes that room after.
    • Haha, ok - now confirmed, yesterday was his last day

That ending with Eva/Samantha and the family was really cute. I'm glad they're accepting her into the family in some way.
    • I have no problem with the teens being on. Tyreel seems cool so far, but angry Sammy Joi can kick rocks.
    • True, and I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what Eva was doing in that random casino room. That made no sense to me.
    • The dialogue was not written great, but Ms. Tunie brought it alive for me.  She's so great that I felt I was the room with Anita Williams Dupree.  Ms. Tunie is so alive.  I forget she's an actress and am captivated by the character.  Which is an achievement when the storyline isn't that interesting yet. (in contrast to a few other actors that I feel are just actors saying lines.)
