AMC and OLTL Canceled!

I see ABC airing Wipeout at least once in the daytime before this is all said and done. They're obsessed with that nonsense. They can do a three-hour black of those other two shows and Wipeout. Chew your food, have a revolution on the toilet, and wipe it clean.

Wow, you're really going out on a limb there. You named every non-canceled soap except for B&B.

Yeah, I think the ones left ARE the last one's left standing effectively.

Considering in 1999 we had what, 13? 14 soaps on the air?

Mark my words, I'm convinced that in 10 years time, daytime will be 50% infomercials.

Agreed, in ten years most people will just be downloading shows and daytime TV will be a thing of the past. I'm suprised ABC just didn't add an extra hour of GMA considering they already own the sets and studio. There is a rumor that ABC wants to merge the news division with Bloomberg so maybe that would make for less profit.

OLTL must still be making money for ABC. The ratings are not that far below GH with a way lower production cost. Speaking of which, I can see the cost cuts on GH. Last week, the cam was shaky and the episode just didn't feel GH lush.

I wouldn't be too surprised. Weekends are already looking like that. Thanks God for AntennaTV and MyNetwork's block of classic sitcoms during the day.

Amen to that! I'm watching Maude as we speak. If ABC thinks they are going to do better cooking shows that PBS create, good luck. I love cooking shows, but I just don't think some stupid name like "Chew" is going to fly. The name isn't exactly appetizing. They might as well call it "Belch".

No it's not. It's not even close. Days ALWAYS rebounds, remember people had it DOA about 3 years ago and it rebounded, it will again. I think Days will be one of the last ones standing: Days, Y&R possibly GH

GH is dead. TPTB tipped their hand when we found out Sweeny wanted to cancel it along with AMC and OLTL. I bet anything it goes out either fall 2012 or Spring 2013. IMO, Y&R will be the last one standing. B&B will ride it's coat tails for awhile perhaps. Damn. I just wish these shows could have lasted 5 more years. I can't believe it's over, even though we knew it was coming.

Yeah, I don't think any of them get renewed beyond their current contracts, which means DAYS in Sept 2013, B&B in Nov 2013, and Y&R in Sept 2014. In fact, I bet NBC regrets their two-year renewal of DAYS when they were heady over its big increases at the time.

As for GH, the fact that the cheaper OLTL was canceled when it was just 0.1 below it in both women 18-49 and women 18-34 tells me its toast around this time next year (to end in Sept 2012).

I love Robin Roberts. One of my favs from her sportscasting days:

RT @Grandpam: @RobinRoberts Can you not do something about All My Children!!! What a mistake ABC is making! Grand, I hear ya! Wish I could.

More Marcy:

"If you would like a point of prayer....please think of those that recently moved to LA when the show relocated last year. I'm sure they gave up apartments and homes on the east coast and maybe even purchased new homes and such. Pray for them and their families as they transition to looking for work or even moving again."

Believe me, people, I can be as cynical as the rest of you, lol. OTOH, though, MW makes a good point: AMC's cast and crew must have sacrificed a ton to make this cross-country move work. And now that it hasn't, what happens for those who didn't want to move in the first place or who might try and stay in L.A. after the show's cancellation, but find their job prospects are few and far between? Yeah, I'm definitely praying for everyone at AMC and OLTL. This is really not the time for anyone to be unemployed.

On another topic, I'm wondering why OLTL got more time than AMC. I'm guessing this must come down to cost. OLTL almost has to much notice--not enough time to chart new stories yet too much time for a wrap up. Expecting a painful eight months. I give Frons credit for at least being honest here as opposed to Bloom over at CBS where they pretended ATWT had a chance after the cancellation of Guiding Light.

My guess is the replacement for OLTL won't be ready until January so thats why OLTL got the extra time. I disagree with you that it's too much time. Soaps plan story months/year in advance, so much of what we see for the rest of the year is likely going to be what they planned all along, with some edits of course, and then Nov-Jan will be the wrap up. NBC announced "Santa Barbara" cancellation in October for a January finale, that was way too short as stories ended abuptly. I too am grateful this announcment was made now as ABC could have easily waited to announce OLTL's demise until late summer, and it would have appeared OLTL had a chance when it didn't, imagine if ABC had waited and just announced AMC's demise and kept OLTL's a secret until the summer, lol some on here would have had a fit! lol

What pisses me off is the cancellation apparantly was in the works, even while actors were uprooting their lives to move to CA.

This song is appropriate for every mood!

:) We still have primetime shows to discuss. Thank god cable gave a rebirth to scripted drama.

this seems an appropriate clip. OLTL sort of died with Asa anyway, and AMC is just not the same without Adam

This was the last story I was watching AMC full time
