You know, I look at these ratings....OLTL in 3rd among 18-49 viewers....OLTL in 3rd among 18-34 viewers.....AMC in last place in both important demographics....Roger Howarth returning to OLTL...

I don't see how Brian Frons can possibly justify canceling OLTL over AMC, period. I can't even see him justify canceling OLTL at all at this point.

Eh...we'll see, though. But financially....it makes no sense to cancel any show other than AMC, if any at all. And all this talk from Daytime Confidential about the 2 PM timeslot being the reason OLTL might be canceled first....if they want that slot this badly, they'd be better off moving OLTL to 1 PM than keeping AMC at all based on these ratings.

Who does he have to justify anything to besides the network who probably are the ones telling him to cancel in the first place. I am very sure that tptb are well aware of the situation and are in agreement with his decision.

And financially we have no idea what is happening over at ABCD I have yet to see any published financial records, no one even knows how much the shows actually cost to produce against how much ad revenue they are providing. All we know for certain is that financially the network is looking for cheaper products to air in the daytime so that is telling me that financially the network doesn't consider any soap other than GH perhaps as being worth the effort of keeping on its daytime lineup. I doubt they care that Roger Howarth is coming back or that OLTL is third in 18-49 especially when that number is low to behind with. What we do know is that ABC is struggling both primetime and daytime and that Disney is/was trying to sell and they have been slashing budgets left and right so it would be safe to say that financially none of the soaps are pulling in the type of money that would make an executive happy.

Sorry, but no matter how you slice it, it looks bad for a network to cancel a soap it owns that's doing better in the key demographic than soaps on other networks that have been renewed for another 2+ years, soaps that ARE NOT owned by those networks.

AMC...yeah, makes sense to cancel at this point. OLTL....no.

That's ridiculous. The difference between OLTL & AMC is almost nonexistent & could change in ONE week. All the ABC soaps are basically interchangeable. The only thing GH has going for it is it's 18-49 viewers...AND even that could EASILY change in one or two weeks.

GH loses 150,000 18-49 viewers & OLTL/AMC gain that amount and what happens??

If you think ABC would be justified in canceling AMC well you better line up OLTL right next to it....then prepare GH.

SOD will have their usual "Plan to Save Days" cover any week now with those ratings. A 1.4 for Days on Friday is panic inducing.

I think I made my point pretty clear. If ABC intends to cancel ONE show, there is no way to justify canceling any other show than AMC. That is not based on one week, it's based on the past year's ratings in the key demographic.

Doesn't matter what COULD happen....all that matters is what HAS happened in the past year...AMC has been in the basement in the key demo.

If I were ABC, I wouldn't cancel any soap...but if they're choosing, no other choice than AMC makes sense at this point.

But that's not what you said you specifically said it "makes sense" to cancel AMC BUT not OLTL.

You said it several times. You based your whole theory that AMC should be canned off of OLTL being in 3rd....

LOL Well Okay if the Difference between 3rd & 6th is almost nothing....it does not say a lot!

Had OLTL been 3rd with 1,677,599 viewers and AMC was 6th with 400,000 you would have a case. But CLEARLY that's not the case.

Now you say ...they should not cancel any soap ...but if they do it should be AMC. ...and "no other choice makes sense"

AGAIN I disagree. or Should I say -1

There are other things that go into a show bringing in $$ other than ratings.

And if you simply think b/c OLTL has 100,000 more 18-49 viewers they are the clear choice to be saved, you're mistaken.

100,000 extra viewers is not going to save OLTL.

It should also be pointed out that AMC goes up against other soaps....does OLTL? Certainly NOT in my market.

However ...I do agree ABC should not cancel ANY soap(s)!!! None of the networks should!!!

IMO the Rating system needs to be overhauled!! I'm staring to have a hard time buying these ratings.

    • Agree. The catfights at the clothing store alone...lol.   That's how I feel about Teresa as well. Cheryl I feel seems to blend much better with Sara's breakdowns, but I definitely love her dialogue no matter who she is with.
    • Episode #62 Thurs May 29 US, Dani arrived at the bar at closing time and used her Dupree name to request that the bartender serve her even though it was past closing time.  Then Doug walked in and Dani convinced the bartender to serve him too.  They were both drowning their sorrows, and the scene switched to Vanessa/Joey having sex on the card table. Then no followup.  Did Dani and Doug talk? Or... ? Where did Doug go? When the next episode started, it was the next day and Dani was meeting with Pamela, and Pamela arranged for some hot guy to date Dani, but Dani wasn't interested.
    • So I'm seeing cuz the catch-up has been brutal. All I can do (besides look at fashion) is smh.
    • Wow. What an episode. Deidre truly broke my heart today. Not much else to say. Just an incredible love story ending.    I’m amazed they couldn’t or didn’t try go get either Claire actress while both of her grandfathers are on death’s door. Hope sensing John had passed was a nice heartbreaking touch. The rest of the week is going to be so hard.
    • -- The fashions are at least something to talk about, because we're definitely not getting any story. I mean, this stuff is dreadful. -- I do like how they're dressing Nikki. Its hugely different from before, but I'll take it. -- At least she doesn't look like Ashley, who's dressed like a clinically-depressed Cruella DeVille. -- Nick without a jacket just looks odd. -- I see Mark Grossman again gained about 15 lbs. when he was away on vacation. The sharp cheekbones are gone and the double chin is back. Hate to be mean, but I hope he loses the weight. -- All that talk about all Claire did to plan that "party." Excuse me? There's nothing go on, and outside of some tacky Happy Birthday signage and tablecloths from Kohls, I don't know what they're talking about.

2025 year-to-date: 64 episodes monthly leaders: as of May 2025 (appearing episodes/total episodes, per month) directors + writers: pre-emptions: seven total pre-emptions + one National delay A very special thanks to @alexisfan07 for the double and triple checking of stats! A huge help that is much appreciated.
    • You're right, but that also sums up why the show is so unwatchable these days. Any character could go on a Postal-style rampage and it would generate a shrug.
    • I'd be surprised if it was. Money is money. And yeah, Kathy's done all those things but tbh given the current tally for ruinous character choices in EE in recent years I'm kind of numb to it and find hers small potatoes by comparison.
