She's a good actress, but that acceptance speech was a mess. I didn't care about her saying "f-ck" (they censored it, so who cares?)

They didn't censor it here. CTV for the WIN!

She's a good actress, but that acceptance speech was a mess. I didn't care about her saying "f-ck" (they censored it, so who cares?), but she just seemed rather fake. "Pinch me. For me? Really?" UGH! And then add the awkwardness of Kirk Douglas (I seriously thought he might die on-stage or fall into the orchestra pit) -- cringe-worthy! I had to change the channel it was so bad, but managed to see Melissa walking off, grabbing 95-year-old Kirk's cane and mimicking the walk of an old man.

I agree. It did seem fake. I don't think her expletive was spontaneous. I think she planned it.

She has been panned for it, as well as for financing her own Oscar campaign. One review I read said the word around Hollywood is she is obnoxious.

The ad she took out didn't bother me. I didn't see the big deal in that. She just seemed really fake on stage.

I think prior to this actors taking ads out on their own behalf just wasn't done. I was watching a great interview with Bette Davis from decades ago, and she was saying she didn't even like the then-recent trend of advertising at all for consideration.

I think it was done at least 3 other times base on an article I read. I don't see it as a big deal. The studios do it all the time for the actors. She just financed an ad for herself.

I bet she'll channel her inner-Linda Warner to people dissing her Oscar speech.

''I got my ticket to freedom, Nina! I got my ticket to freedom and I'm getting out of this joke of a town! And me and Zach are gonna live like KINGS on YOUR money, SISTER!

Nice pictures, HUH, of you and Zach having ALL kinds of fun for your scrapbook...RIGHT?!''

I hate that the show used the name Zach again years later. <_<

Me too!

And they've used 'Mike'/'Michael' 3 times!

Several Michaels or Elizabeths I can approve of, that's like any person's real-life experience. ^_^ Y&R is always cited for having two Johns at the same time. I liked how they would say John Silva's full name, again, a nice realistic touch.

I think it's bizarre how much people absolutely hate Melissa Leo now for some reason. I don't follow the movie industry...at all (dozens of major movies coming out each year is harder to keep up with than six feeble little soaps -- plus, "my" movies are not "Oscar" movies anyway), but I'm very curious as to what she's done to get such hostility from people. Something about a campaign ad or something? And people think she's fake?

They've used Jonathan twice.

Jonathan Kinder

Jonathan Lavery

And Taylor

Taylor "fabulous bitch" Roxbury-Canon

Taylor "that army girl" I dont even know what the hell her last name was

Her speech seemed to bother a lot of people. I don't know why but you always need someone to hate I guess. I've seen some act horrified that she took Kirk Douglas' cane, but he didn't seem to care...

I'm getting that people didn't like that she winged it and rambled without saying much. Like, you can wing it and ramble if you're being devastatingly witty and charming, but if there's a lot of vamping and pausing, the most interesting part being an expletive, people start turning up noses.
