You mean differences between the characters, or the actresses? I don't know how the actresses got on, but the main difference between Pat and Alice seemed to be that Alice was a more straightforward heroine while Pat was more troubled, with a long history of mental illness. She was also put into more complex stories, like alcoholism, and killing her daughter's boyfriend because he reminded her of the man who'd had her get an abortion years ago.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply Alice was Pat's daughter.

You probably already know this, but just to clear up what I meant - when Pat was a teenage girl she dated a young man (who later went on to be Victor on Port Charles) and he convinced her to have sex with him. She got pregnant. He told her if she had an (illegal at the time) abortion, they'd get married. She did, and got sick and was told she couldn't have children. When the guy taunted her and said he'd never marry her, she killed him, and got off on insanity. She married her defense attorney, John Randolph, and several years later found a miracle operation which meant she could have twins, Michael and Marianne. She and John then divorced because of his adultery.

When Marianne became a teenager, her boyfriend was attracted to Pat. He made a pass at her. She turned him down. He turned Marianne against her and he said a lot of nasty things to Pat. Finally she snapped and confusing him with her old boyfriend, she killed him. She went through a lengthy trial, and Marianne testified against her. The family was only reunited when John's psycho wife Olive tried to kill Wesley Ann Pfenning Alice, and John died saving her from a burning house.

Oh. I totally forgot about that. I had AW on the brain.

I guess the main difference would be that unlike Alice, whom viewers saw grow up from kid sister to lead ingenue, Pat was supposed to be a more cosmopolitan woman. Her innocent years were over long before she moved to Llanview, spent, I guess, with the doomed love affair with Tony. Pat also had no real support system in family, as she just had her son, whom she lied to for his entire life, was then killed when he found out the truth, she had the crazy cousin. Alice had a big family.

I've seen footage of Robin Strasser and Jacqueline Courtney as Rachel and Alice but I've never seen them at the acrimonious point of their relationship. Would love to. Seen Wyndham being a real bitch to Alice, but I'd like to see how Strasser played it. I know there's audio out there if not video.

Maggie was on the show sometime around 1979 or early 1980, when Pat was dating Clint. Pat's son Brian had been dead for a year or so by then I think. I guess this was before the DTR clips with Gretel/Dorian/Pat, if those are the ones you mean. Schemering didn't go into details about the story but he said it was awful, and that the story with Adam Brewster also fell apart. He seemed dissatisfied with most of her material at OLTL, but he did love her work when Brian was killed.

I have one magazine which has a photo of Maggie - although that might be everywhere, I don't know. I'd like to see the story just to see how bizarre it must have been. I wonder if Jacquie ever watched Kate Collins on TV and fumed...

I think it's because we see so little of her and hear so little about her run. She was on the show for like 7 years.

For all of Rauch's hostility towards her, I do wonder if deep down he knew how important her type of actress and look was to soaps - one of the reasons I have a fondness for Brenda Brock, who was sort of a Rauch find, is because she reminds me so much of Jacquie Courtney. That weird mix of toughness and fragility. She could punch you out but might cry about it later on.

    • To be fair, I don't think she was written out as much as not being written for as they had to gear up for the final episode. I'd assume they might've had the option to use her again but they just didn't find the space.
    • Seems Traci and Julie on Days are both shopping at 'Granny's Garments'. You just can't go wrong with a loose print long line jacket (hides those figure faults, gals), a comfy pair of slacks, a scoop neck T and some chunky accent jewelry. And don't forget your crowning glory-a wash 'n' go hair do.

    • I loved the cliffhanger of Xander being arrested for Philip's attack.
    • I've got to say GH is the soap I'm enjoying the most right now, followed closely by Days. I can't wait for Willow's world to come crashing down on her. She is one stupid hoe. To choose Drew over her children is despicable. I'm loving Rory Gibson as new Michael.
    • That could apply to Dani too, and Leslie looking at herself in the mirror being crazy. The gambling scenes were pure fast-forward material.   The best part of the show was seeing Mona.   BTG is slowly becoming background noise when I watch it.
    • It seems like it was tested with all the concern she showed him. Obviously Dani would create a lot more conflict because her sister is Vanessa's best friend, but on the other hand Vanessa could pull the socio-economic class card on Shanice which would make for good conflict.
    • I could buy Belle being drawn to EJ, even being confused/horrified over it... but to actually date/sleep with him is a stretch. Still... this is the soap that had Satan possess a character, underground dungeons, a heart being removed from someone's chest and then slipped back in (Jennifer), and almost every is related by blood and/or marriage... so I can't expect the soap to not have Belle go for it with EJ.
    • Belle doesn't have a "savior complex" she has a half assed martyr hoe complex. See her staying with sponge bob square head Faux Philip(KB)cause he was injured overseas in war & he was "the father of her baby" like it was the 1950s or something. Not out of some true love kinda ish. That's what she told Shawn as to why she couldn't be with him despite cheating with him behind Phil's back. I didn't care but a spade is a spade cause that logic went straight out the window once Shawn moved on with Mimi & stopped letting her string him along. The minute he found someone else & she couldn't string him along while playing house with Phil? It's the minute the facade of her's dropped. Belle just wants to have her cake and eat it too. A self righteous thot who looks down her nose at others Sami, Xander while she lays up with the monster who not only tortured her beloved daddy but her sister & rest of her family. Like her using her daddy "dying" back in 07 as the reason she was having an affair with JKJ Phil & slept with him in her martial bed she shared with her husband. I think it was either before John's funeral or after. Belle's loyalty is too a dick especially one that's not her husbands

Nothing more nothing less you're trying to oversimplify something that doesn't need to be oversimplified. I'm mad big daddy John is going out with his 2 biological kids being dumber then a box of rocks bird brains, who don't even share one brain cell btw the 2 of them. John's legacy deserves better you hear me! 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣 At least he still has Pumpkin Carrie & Paul 🕊
    • They need to put this new Michael on frontburner every day for as long as they can.  They also need to bring in a new love interest (or many) for him.  Give this actor as much material as possible, please! I hope this Drew-Michael nephew-uncle rivalry goes on for the long haul.  I was worried they were leading up to a Drew murder mystery, but that would prematurely end some great long-term soapy storytelling.  The Quartermaines don't need any more dead family members, either.
