Members quartermainefan
what an odd choice for a remake. I wouldn't even categorize this as one of John Wayne's best movies.
Members SFK
My uncle was commenting on this on Thanksgiving. Never saw it, but he rattled off some good John Wayne one-liners from it.
Members Sylph
The Coens are kind of starting to worry me. They were on a roll with No Country for Old Men, but then just started thumping out movie after movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coen_brothers#Upcoming.2C_planned_films_and_uncompleted_projects I just hope it all ends being done according to their own high standards. Members quartermainefan
John Wayne made some great movies. He is under-appreciated because he is John Wayne and it is easy to dismiss him. But he said it best when he said (and this may not be word for word) "I was good enough for John Ford." John Ford is now a name receding into time, but he has been called one of the best director of classic Hollywood and the gold standard. He turned out masterpieces that are worth seeking out. Anyway, TRUE GRIT is not one of these classics. It got Wayne his Oscar but that was probably more for 40 years worth of work.
Members Adam
I will confess that I know nothing really about John Wayne's career or his movies.... I labeled it a classic simply because I know he won an Oscar haha.
