Members SoapDope
Thanks for the Ball scenes. Lorie's dress was quite revealing for 1981, but by today's standards she is covered more than what celebs wear on the red carpet. Nice to see Katherine in scenes with Liz and The Brooks. I laughed at Liz questioning Kay about Mr. Cashen.....LOL

Members YRfan23
wow, I had know idea they had an event like this......Lorie and Leslie (especially Leslie) Look beautiful!! Loved how Lorie upstages Leslie who looks like she's ready to strangle Lorie.....the dancing scenes were beautifully shot! what exactly was this ball for btw?..... great to see Katherine with Liz and Stuart.......I don't really know about much of Katherine's stories around this time though i'm guessing this Cashman guy is somehow involved with Nikki and the bayou I believe?.....I know Kay and Nikki had gotten to be friends at this point....
Members DRW50
Thanks. Was this an event the show did to help push the move to an hour? Or was this a while after? Was this after Leslie/Jonas? I doubt Liz would be sobbing over Leslie's shining moment, even if she'd be happy for her. Nice scene though. So was Derek out of the story by this point? Katherine mentioned Cash. I kept wondering if she'd mention Jill to Liz... I kept wondering if those older British people would really give a huge ovation to an American woman just because she can play a piano, but I'm glad Leslie got her moment. It just seemed a little...much. Victoria Mallory looked stunning, even if I wish they'd done a better job with the bottom of the dress. I like the idea (pure, innocent Leslie), and I like the gloves. She looked like she was going to kill Lorie at the end. I'm surprised they never had her go nuts and go that route. Lorie just had to take center stage, she had to make sure everyone knew it was about her, not about Leslie. Even having the silver strip near the slit in the gown, to call extra attention. Yet she was so hesitant while dancing with that French guy who looked like the wooden Frank Ryan #1 on Ryan's Hope (MIchael Hawkins), so in need of making sure Lance saw her. The blue looked great on JLB, as did the earrings. I guess this was her last hurrah as a bad girl. I wonder if fans at the time felt this was a step back. Lance is just kind of...there, duh-faced throughout. Who were the guys with that Simone woman? One looked like Ted LePlat.
Members Paul Raven
Loved the unending applause for Leslie and the dubbed in ooohs and aaahs when Lorie appeared. And that fake French accent on Jean Claude or whatever his name was. Was that set the Colonnade Room modified? The pillars and arch windows look familiar. I guess they took a chance with Dennis Cole, going for a totally different character, but he in no way resembled John McCook's Lance in appearance or manner. Watching the AW eps in the canceled threads I thought the guy playing Jordan had a look resembling McCook and might have worked as Lance. Yes,Jerry 'Cash' Cashmman worked as a stripper and male escort at the Bayou.
Members Paul Raven
This way after the move to the hour- around the time of Charles and Diana's wedding-July 81. I think it was timed to cash in on royal wedding fever. Derek was gone by this stage.

He concludes he has lost Leslie. Matthew tells Peggy it is too late for her... When Michael calls after Eve's visit,Julia tries to cover her devastation. Before they know it,they have had sex. Afterwards they agree it was just a mistake. Paul manages to convince Simeko that being back on the outside made him realize he belongs with New World. Simeko decides to trust Paul again. Matthew informs Simeko Peggy Brooks is no longer a problem. Julia worries to herself that Victor will tell something has changed. She wonders why she did it.Was it revenge over hearing from Eve?
Members soapfave06
Thanks for sharing these recaps, Paul Raven! Do you have any for the fall of 1981? Whenever the Edward/Nikki Psycho-esque story played out?

Members soapfave06
Thanks for posting the music critics ball. Leslie and Lorie looked stunning. That was such a lavish setting. We will never get stuff like that today. B&B comes close but have they ever even had a ball? That's the first I've seen of Stuart and Liz together, too bad they were separated and written out. And its always nice to see Jeanne Cooper/Kay! Especially her earlier stuff. Thanks so much!

Members SoapDope
In the first Y&R book they have a section on the 1981 Gala Ball. They say they took days creating the set and making the floor look like marble. This was done in to coincide the royal wedding of Charles & Diana.
Members slick jones
A Nikki question: Did the show ever reveal Edward the stalker's last name? I remember reading that he was from a wealthy family.
