@Paul Raven Thank you for the K.T. Stevens article.

Her IMDb page has very little after Y&R, even though she lived another 13 years after her run on Y&R ended.

From the Vanessa scenes that I've seen, K.T. Stevens had primetime soap matriarch energy, but the only primetime soap role she got was guest star on Knots Landing.

I have been fascinated by Vanessa Prentiss after learning about her from during the 1980 episode that aired during covid repeats.

In the bad moves by well regarded writers thread, The racial dynamic between Jill and Mamie was heavily discussed. This is the latest clip I've seen of her original actress Marguerite Ray. I presume this is after John had the (stroke?) when Victor took over Jabot?

That brief scene demonstrated both the feelings Mamie had for the family and through Ashley the family's love for her.

Well played.

A couple of things...Why was Marguerite Ray dropped? Veronica Redd didn't really change Mamie in anyway and I could see MR doing fine in scenes with Winters sisters.

And how many strokes and heart attacks did John Abbott have?

I like Veronica Redd and she certainly put her stamp on Mamie and as the beloved aunt of Dru and Olivia, but I would be lying if it does distract me that she was young enough to be more like an older sister to both of them in real life. MR was definitely more aged appropriate as their aunt since she was like 17-18 years older then VR.

KT Stevens definitely had an "Old Hollywood" vibe to her performances.  She'd had an interesting career as an ingenue.  I'm sure you've seen the film Harriet Craig from the late 1940s or early 1950s, where she stars opposite Joan Crawford, lol.

Like Jeanne Cooper, if she'd laid-off the cigarettes a little bit, her film career would've likely been extended.  The movie industry never seemed to have much use for a "wrinkled" actress, unless the actress was playing a comical, character-type role.

I always felt KT Stevens was wasted on Y&R.  Bill Bell deliberately kept Vanessa fairly one-dimensional -- "I'll destroy Lauralee Brooks if it's the last thing I do!" -- and never really let her develop a sympathetic side.

Rumor I read was that Bill Bell saw that Marguerite Ray wasn't connecting acting-wise with Victoria Rowell.

Marguerite Ray was born in 1931 and Veronica Redd was born in 1948, so yes Marguerite seemed more maternal aunt whereas Veronica seemed more older sister.

It really is a shame they didn’t try to give Vanessa a love Interest or life outside of causing trouble for Lorie, Leslie and her sons. Her and the Maestro definitely should have been given a chance as a couple.

I wonder if it’s that same “one note” formula that Bill used for Vanessa that Bradley Bell is currently using for Steffy Forrester on B&B with her “Logan’s are EVIL” yet she’s the most hypocritical one of them all!

I honestly prefer it when there kids and adults are more age appropriate in real life, yet Bill Bell never seem to care about that as long as certain actors had a “mature look” to them I guess.like John McCook and Ronn Moss only being 8 years apart but playing opposite as father and son for 25 years. Though if it wasn’t for JMc having his hair as grey as it was I could clearly see Eric and Ridge as brothers more then father/son.

I agree! and again that dyed grey hair just barely did the trick!

Also again, another case of a much older, age appropriate actor, being replaced by someone too young. I think the original Jim Grainger, John Phillip Law was like 20 years older older then O'Hurley.

    • Good Morning, this is still funny to me but I totally enjoyed what makes up "DemetriKane" so unnecessary, who cares?!!! Glad you like the Emma Peel derivative story.
    • Christian Streaty penned today's Day's script. https://www.linkedin.com/in/christian-streaty/
    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
